Obviously, the US and the UK (both which I compare France to) have many "socialist" policies in place. But, speaking in relative terms, France is much more "socialistic" than the UK and US... The results, as I show in those links, has been a relative decline in GDP per Capita for France...

The reason for this is that high taxes and large welfare payments have created major disincentives for French workers... this causes less French workers to enter the labor market and, when they do, to work less hours.

On top of this, the tight labor market regulations have led to much higher persistent unemployment (unemployment has been high for a long period of time) in France...

US is catching up to the US. Yes, France unemployment rate is horrendous. On a side note, often times economic data is difficult to analyze since the metholodogy can be skewed. Shadow Government Statistics shows US unemployment at near 23%

US was ahead of France to begin with... the gap has just widened in the past 30 years.. even though standard growth theory predicts that gaps should shrink
