For some reason, every time I tell somebody I am a vegetarian they automatically think that I am a hippy socialist, even though I am a crazy right-wing authoritarian (lol). Why is this? What kind of cause-effect caused this stereotype?

Well, cause most sane people are not vegans, mainly because we understand the greatness of bacon.

Joking aside, its probably just cause your in a minority I would think. Hippies are often portrayed as vegetarians, and since hippies are often thought of as left-leaning, viola! Instant stereotype!

And when I say, vegan or vegetarian I mean the same thing, even though I get that they aren't.... :P

Most veggieavores are such because of views on animal rights and animal cruelty. Such views are often held by liberals.

We all know that, if A = B and B = C, than A = C.

However, we have a pattern perdicting based brain. It naturally tries to guestimate (e.g. if I come across 20 rattle snakes and 19 try to bite and kill me when I get close, it is safe to say that I shouldn't get close to any of them). So the brain goes with...

if most A = most B, and most B = most C, than most A = most C. That is not logically sound, but if you're at a casino and playing the odds, you'll do pretty good. Of course, thre are always excepts (since "most" implies "not all").

I have to admit, if you are a conservative authoritarian, Voldemort is a good idol.

I believe that human beings, capable of rational and critical thought, have evolved past the point of eating animals for pleasure. After all, you don't need meat to survive.

The conditions in slaughterhouses are ABYSMAL. It's a machine with no respect for animal life.

Also, I don't like the flavour and texture of meat. I've never really eaten beef or pork for a long time, so the only thing I ate before converting was chicken and turkey.

I am not a vegetarian, but I am a Liberal. However, I AM a vegetarian when it comes to RED meat (just joking).

I'm also a vegetarian, one of the reasons being the deplorable conditions in slaughterhouses.

In response to the question you pose, as others have said, the majority of vegetarians are liberal. I know several vegetarians, and they are all liberal (myself included), so it just becomes a matter of association. Then there's also the stereotype of the red-blooded, steak loving 'MERICA conservative, so that's another level of societal preconceptions working against you.

I know, it's annoying right?
I'm a Ovo-lacto-vegetarian, and I'm right wing libertarian.

in highschool someone asked me how I could be a vegetarian and still wear a leather jacket. Last I checked Ed Gein wasn't a cannibal.

No, not really.

A lot of people assume gays are Liberal, but 1/3 of gay people actually vote Republican. That's another stereotype but at least a more reasonable assumption.
