I was looking through some random videos about SOPA when I found this:

Also, I remembered that Newt Gingrich is against SOPA so if you don't liken SOPA who do you vote for?

Newt is pro SOPA. He just doesn't want to tell the public.

All the Republicans were against SOPA. I'd hardly call this victory 'shocking' virtually everyone outside of Hollywood was against it.

You'd vote for Ron Paul. He was one of the first Republicans to be against it.
It is odd when one's capacity for compassion is measured not in what he is willing to do by his own time, effort, and property, but what he will force others to do with their own property instead.

Intelectual property theft is no different than going to Walmart and taking a CD of the shelf.

I'm an intellectual property supporter. Whoosh, right over your head. IP theft is already illegal. SOPA's main purpose is to make people liable for it who DIDNT DO IT, even if they respond to cease and desist letters/ DMCA takedown notices in removing user content.

Yes, it is illegal but not strongly enforced.

It was up for years until it was finally taken down. The government simply doesn't have enough authority.

If it's up for years and then is taken down with no change in authority, then the problem isn't authority.

It's the lack of authority placed into the authority.

Haha, not strongly enforced under current legislation, so let's make more legislation about it? I'm reminded of something about trying the same thing over and over expecting different results...

So, X is illegal. We're not enforcing it very well, so let's make it more-illegal-er? Then we can make it mostest illegalist if that doesn't work.

That would be remarkable, but the actual SOPA is less stupid and more evil.Rather than "Trying the same thing again", what's going on is "We can't find the guilty, so let's loot the innocent for our compensation instead."

Yes, my post was more toward the attitude than SOPA in general.

Who in their right mind wants the government to have authority that it could abuse, but we'll trust them not to?

Let's just pass a law that says the government can do anything at all that it deems necessary for any reason and get it over with.

If you want to be ridiculously picky, any idea borrowed could be construed as intellectual theft, even words out of a dictionary, given the proper court and judge.

That's not the same as a cd on a shelf.

Ultimately, giving the people who control the government even more control over the economy is not in anyone's best interests.

I'm an artist. I make all of my money from products relating to my art. I am still against SOPA. It is a trick. Those in power only pass legislation like this to gain more influence and power in the economy.

An economic institution that gains the backing of the state can be a dangerous thing. The economy must adapt to changing technologies.

A dictionary is specifically sold for the purpose of people using it to get words.

Now, if you copy every word from the dictionary in order and resell...
