Do you mean like the Hessians? Or do you mean like the private security firm Blackwater USA?

I don't like the Hessians concept, I do like the blackwater concept.

The Hessian concept may be good for drawing a federal revenue, but it's not good to be renting out our soldiers to what ever country is willing to pay.

The blackwater concept is a good concept, because it allows for a reduction of cost, and it allows for more troops, who normally couldn't enlist do to bureaucratic BS. For example, my step dad is over 50, so he can't enlist, but he is more fit than many 32 year olds who are able to enlist in the army or Navy. He wishes he could enlist, but due to bureaucrats he can't.

Personally, my ideal policy would be to make every able-bodied citizen a member of their state militia, to be called forth by the President during times of imminent invasion or insurrection.
However no person, who is conscientiously scrupulous about the lawfulness of bearing arms, shall be compelled to active service.

I believe the standing army should only consist only of Officers and special forces units.
Officers would be appointed to oversee the militia, and special forces would be responsible for oversees missions.

I think anyone who fights primarily for money would be less reliable than a force fighting to defend their home or families or country.

Actually a lot of the soldiers in the U.S. military are there for the financial benefits they get in return.

I don't see how our standard soldiers aren't doing it for money already.

The US army's motto "This We'll Defend" describes the purpose of the Army, Defense of Liberty.
The Army's primary goal is defense, as opposed to the Marines, which is an offensive group.

Justification and motivation are wholly different questions.
It came to be at its height. It was commanded to command. It was a capital before its first stone was laid. It was a monument to the spirit of man.

In a libertarian society, all police and armed forces would be mercenaries, no?

That's anarcho-capitalism, not libertarianism.

UN Peace keepers are known for running a muck. Some well known examples; the allegations of rape, human trafficking, and forced prostitution, or the allegations of human rights violations by the UN soldiers.
