Two new polls out today show that Newt's message of $2.50 gasoline is resonating and voters are responding to his bold leadership that has put President Obama on the defensive over his failed policies.
In Alabama, Rasmussen shows Newt with the slight edge for first place with 30%.
Gingrich – 30%
Romney – 29%
Santorum – 28%
And in Mississippi, American Research Group has Newt in first place with 35%. Among Tea Party supporters, Newt holds a commanding lead with 49% to Romney's 24%. Here are the overall results:
Gingrich – 35%
Romney – 31%
Santorum – 20%

I like Newt, but he has to win both Alabama and Mississippi or he will need to drop out. If he loses a state in the deep south, he is no longer credible. Tennessee was okay because that isn't really in the deep south, but Alabama and Mississippi are must wins.

Just like he was out in 2011 and just like he was out after Iowa. Newt can surprise us.

The problem is, if Romney can tie Gingrich in the Deep South then Gingrich is done.

He was supposed to win by double digits but now he's winning by like .1%

Romney would prefer a Gingrich revival than another Santorum surge.

He can brag on that for a few days (seems one small win 10% join your team) which will place him in 1st or second in both.
