If you click the Electoral College link on the new BIG Issues right now its split exactly 50-50. I found this interesting and a little surprising.

Discuss? Who's for and who's against?
The wise have eyes in their heads, while the fool walks in the darkness; but I came to realizethat the same fate overtakes them both.
Then I said to myself,
"The fate of the fool will overtake me also.
What then do I gain by being wise?"
I said to myself, "This too is meaningless."
For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered;
the days have already come when both have been forgotten.
Like the fool, the wise too must die!

Against, because I favor a Liberal Democracy.

I think that we should have a Ranked Voting System as well to make the system of government more democratic and for the people.

For, because then people in low populated areas would have no power whatsoever, and all presidential candidates would just campaign in New York and California

I don't like the idea that the pure masses would have complete say. Pure democracy is foolish.

The way the college is set up now, all it does is just give the masses in the big states complete say.
But if the chance remains
to see those better days,
I'd cut the cannons down.

It forces the candidates to consider regional concerns given that there is a swing state in every region and keep from delivering too radical a platform.

Although, I think I would prefer it to be a contest by congressional district, with the remaining two votes going to whichever candidate gets the statewide majority. This allows for even liberal New England/West Coast and the conservative South to have many districts that are a toss-up.

Because we're in a politically stable environment. The point of the EC is that if the political environment ever became unstable or if the masses were hypnotized by someone bad for the country they could vote someone else in without the majority consent.

It doesn't happen often but it does happen occasionally.
