Can anyone help me out and say any pre-revolutionary french liberal leaders? i.e. if there are any non-absolutist monarchs, for example, or major philosophers of note? I have Rousseau (Pretty much French, you can see the problem I'm having when he's first to mind) and Montesquieu, but not much else comes to mind.

Well, when I think of French people who contributed to liberalism (classical liberalism), I think of Bastiat.

But, of course, when you talk about modern liberalism, which is more socialistic, I think of Rousseau...
As a general rule, you'll find that, when a conservative is talking about policy, history, economics, or something serious, liberals are nowhere to be found. But, as soon as a conservative mentions Obama's birthplace or personal life, liberals are everywhere, only to dissappear again when evidence enters the discussion.

Voltaire?
