I know this should probably go in the News forum, but this is mostly an issue of objectiveness vs. partisan bias.

What are your main news sources? Which ones are fairly un-biased?

Personally, I read the NYTimes and The Economist. NYT Opinion section aside, those are fairly unbiased (or in the case of The Economist, biased against both sides). But virtually every other source has a detectable bias. I liked the WSJ until they went off the right-wing cliff. BBC and Reuters seem good for international news, but their depth in US affairs can only go so far.

You do know that the NYTimes has a heavy liberal bias, right? I get a lot of my news from Yahoo, the CNN and FOX websites, Youtube channels, and if I'm bored I'll read the Wall Street Journal.

Nope. That's one of those common myths. The Opinion section, definitely. But I rarely see bias in their reporting.

Russia Today is the best
Al Jazeera is good

As far as nightly news goes, PBS is the best.

For the news networks CNBC is the only one I can stand during the day.
Then maybe CNN FOX MSNBC, last ditch, in that order..

C-SPAN, Fox News, Fox Business, Wall Street Journal, Politico and the Daily Caller for political news, CNN for breaking international news.

An objective study (was it USC or UCLA?) that counted sources cited found the PBS news and Fox news the most balanced in hard news reporting. That's interesting since PBS is way left in opinion and fox is way right in opinion, but they both get it together for their nightly news reports.

Most biases are obvious, so, I think, not too harmful if you are following the issues. Monday, Rachel Maddow (MSNBC) critiqued the Republican VP choice from the standpoint that nothing matters but the issues of free birth control and abortion. That's odd, but the bias is abundantly clear, so harmless.

Any and everywhere. I watch all of the cable news networks which range from Fox News to The Daily Buzz. I watch C-SPAN and all of the regular network programs too. Not to mention the ones on PBS, TBN, ABC Family Channel as well.
Of the tube I have a whole arsenal of newspapers I read that come to me through direct mail. And I have very mind boggling subscriptions to newsletters that come to me from all over the world.

I think that no matter how bias a source is, so long as it is supplemented with other sources to get a broader view (and I don't mean 5 sources that are all bias to the same direction) is ideal. I may "hear" something on Fox, or MSNBC, or wherever that may be a bias source, but rather than dismissing it for the source, I check it against other sources.

But seriously, mainly blogs, Sunday morning talk shows, and the occasional magazine/newspaper.

Not when it comes to foreign policy. At the very mention of it they toss out the hyper-progressive commentators and bring in the jingoistic war mongerers.

On international issues, all American newspaper are jingoistic. The only difference is that some are more jingoistic than others. All of them censor or twist any news which is damaging for United States.

American viewers should definitely use Al Jazeera and BBC for a little balance.

Which commentator would be considered Progressive?

Well I was speaking metaphorically, most if not all of the commentators are aggressively progressive on social issues. If I had to pick the most progressive it would be Piers Morgan. Putting aside his habit of bashing atheists out of nowhere his tirades against any and all forms of discrimination are a bit cringe worthy sometimes. However all of these same reporters, when it comes to subjects that involve national pride, the military, or really any foreign policy, suddenly morph into hardcore neoconservatives.
