I was puzzled by something I just read. Americans may find the question ridiculous.

Just read that Paul Ryan was a fan of Ayn Rand. However he is supposed to be a strong Christian. Isn't this contradiction? As far as I can remember, Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead contained clearly irreligious philosophies.
The Holy Quran 29:19-20

See they not how Allah originates creation, then repeats it: truly that is easy for Allah.

Say: "Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate creation; so will Allah produce a later creation: for Allah has power over all things.

Either
a) He's lying about his strong christian roots to win votes
b) he can still hold both these views.

This goes for me for a lot of different people.

Reagan, Rand, Paul, ect.

I heard he renounced Ayn Rand for being Atheist.

Yeah, he said he believes in a lot of her philosophy but rejects her atheism. Nothing wrong with that.

Indeed.

Just read that Paul Ryan was a fan of Ayn Rand.
Yes, he liked her books. He has flip-flopped on Ayn Rand...I wish he hadn't.

However he is supposed to be a strong Christian. Isn't this contradiction?
No. Liking Ayn Rand is not anathema to being a Christian, strong or otherwise. Ayn Rand novels not = to Objectivism.

As far as I can remember, Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead contained clearly irreligious philosophies.
No: neither of these books demands that the reader denounce Christianity or that they embrace atheism. Even Objectivism doesn't require that... at least not explicitly.

Ryan said he was a great fan of Ayn Rand's defense of self-reliance, by that he didn't subscribe to Rand's broader philosophy of objectivism.

I don't see a conflict between Christianity and chef-reliance.

It was my understanding that Ryan rejected Objectivism because he believed that the philosophy was not compatible with his Christian views.

Depends by what you mean by self-reliance. It is a general Christian belief that they are reliant on God for salvation.

However if you are talking in a worldly sense, then I agree completely.
