No. Really. Are they joking? Man, that's the weakest peace price since.... Al Gore 2007.

That price is becoming a Joke.
So prove me wrong, then.

Are you f*cking kidding me?

Ditto to regebro.

Yeah, I have to say - I like what he wants to do, but why are they giving him a prize if he hasn't actually done it yet?

I wonder how much of a poll boost this will be.

Yeah, this and the 2007 award is giving award to people they *want* to succeed, not people who have succeeded. Which is wrong. I don't think that has happened for like 50 years. The current committe (5 norwegian ex parlamentarians) clearly are complete idiots.
So prove me wrong, then.

It seems to me like it is just a pat on the back for wanting to do the right thing. If that is all the criteria needed, then I'm due. I always want to do the right thing!

And do you mean there hasn't been a proper Laureate in 50 years, or that this kind of "good for you for wanting to do something!" criterion hasn't happened since 50 years ago?

No it's more than that. It's not so much a pat on the back for wanting to do the right thing, as then telling the world: "You should listen to this guy". Essentially, it's the Norwegian parliament telling Americans who to vote for.

It may seem premature but Obama's work in building bridges with Muslim countries whilst taking a firmer hand with Israel may pay real dividends in the Arab / Israeli Peace Process.

That took a lot of courage as it has caused a lot of disquiet domestically, especially amongst Jewish Americans who are amongst his biggest political donors.

This is absurd. Are they going to give Olympic medals now to people they think might win? MLB should give the Yankees the trophy right now, since they might win this year anyway.

In addition the nominations for the it ended two weeks into Obama's term.

Yes thats right, in two weeks he contributed so much to peace he was considered worthy of nomination.

But I consider the it a joke anyway as a worrying large number of recipients are/were unrepetentant terrorists.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

Agree. He didn't earn it yet. In fact, he's about to increase the amount of troops in Afghanistan.

I am a fan, but it just was not the right choice.Obama has one very little in terms of peace.

There were better choices.

I agree that it is "you should listen to this guy," but I doubt it has anything to do with the Norwegians engineering Obama's re-election. The Nobel Peace Prize needed a big name to attach it to, and they were lucky with the timing; the controversy over Obama getting it so early in his career will pass, and do you know what will be left? "Barack Obama - 44th President of the United States, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate." The Nobel heads will get their credit, Obama gets some fame, and history will smile down on both.

Engineering now. Just saying "Hey, vote for this guy". That's not engineering. But it is, as we say in Scandinavia, putting your nose in it. :)

The Nobel committee is appointed by the leftist Norwegian parliament. As with Carter and Gore receiving the prize since 2000, it was a chance to say one more time, "We hate President Bush." They have made a joke of the prize.

The two previous presidents to win in office were Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.

Meh, what does it matter? They can say whatever they want, and use their influence how they want, and if that means "vote for Barack," then they'll do as such. I dount many Americans will even listen, lol.

Hehe.

Lol, it still boggles the mind how Gore got it. There is so many others worthy.... so many others.

I dispute that Carter was a false win. He's done a lot of good work and I can see him getting the prize regardless.

But yes, it does appear that way. You know who I would like to see even nominated? Bill Clinton. That man has done quite a lot, both during and after his presidency. That wouldn't be quite a F-you to Bush, and it would probably honour someone worthy due to actions, instead of sunshine-and-rainbow happy thoughts.

Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. Cheer when we lose the Olympics, boo when we get the Nobel prize. What kind of up-fu$kery is this?

Sadistic, absolutely sadistic. Putting your hatred of a black president ahead of your desire for the country to succeed is inex-fu$king-cusable.

Well, it is kind of the risk someone takes when they enter public office. If people don't like you, be prepared to bare the brunt of the blame for everyone's problems, and when you can offer viable solutions to everyone's problems, be prepared to get booed for your accomplishments and cheered for your failures.

Besides, people have a right to be a little weird about this Nobel Peace Prize award to Barack. It is just a little much for a guy who wants to do a lot of things, but has yet to do most. Not saying he won't, but give it to them when he does.

The NPP has been a joke for years, bottom line.

If it's not a poet passively-aggressively advocating socialism, it's someone with influence who thinks Jimmy- Carter was/is an exemplary leader.

The prize is just about irrelevant anymore. If there's any silver lining, at least the USA won it. Woo hoo!
