This is outrageous. As we go tumling off the "fiscal cliff", here are some of the waste that was in the bill:

$248 million for holywood
$222 million for rum producers
$78 million for NASCAR
$59 million for algae growers
$7 million for electric motorcycle makers.

All this translates into $70 billion in wasted spending - money that can be used to help offset the defiict and debt. Geeze, no wonder we have been having $$trillion deficit for the past 4 years!

Hopefully that's enough to cover at least the next two Avatar movies.

Given that the first one spent $237 million, I doubt it....

My favorite is that the armed services committee is claiming that "Sequestration Will Drastically Shrink the Military and Harm National Security"
It's 492 billion over 10 years. We've been running trillion dollar deficits but we can't cut 50 billion a year from the military? I haven't looked but I'm sure these are Washington cuts, that is cuts from automatic spending increases.
It's really incomprehensible, Only spending 3 or 4 times as much as the next most powerful military in the world will harm our national security? What a joke.

If I was a Congressman, I would be increasing funding for the military for the day the public catches on.

To my understanding:
$248 million for holywood
for filming in the U.S. (i.e. not outsourcing)
$222 million for rum producers
To increase national production in PR, as opposed to importing
$78 million for NASCAR
Accelerated depreciation on their facilities, which may be valid on its own merit
$59 million for algae growers
$7 million for electric motorcycle makers.

Wouldn't this be considered stimulus spending?
Also, are these refundable tax credits or do these only affect tax revenue otherwise collected? If the latter, is it really spending if you simply plan to have less revenue?
My work here is, finally, done.

It is lame how things get added to bills. I think congress should be able to vote for each part of every bill.

I'm sure they can, if they wanted. They likely add things to bills so individual politicians get what they want. For example, I may vote on your bill if you vote for my amendment to it, this way, we both get votes on our agendas.

Another reason is because we all know politicians are liars, so no one will believe they will vote what they promised next time (see: sequestration), so the votes must occur at the same time, on the same bill.

As Rand Paul noted, it was impossible for congressmen to even read what was in the bill. It was a 154 page bill that was shoved in 3 minutes.

Disgusting. I see a bleak future for the US and the rest of the planet...possibly a Great Depression 2 with of course no World War to get us out of it unless...
