Something has been puzzling me for the past few weeks.

Obama keeps framing apparent victories using Biden. He could have taken credit for avoiding the tax cliff and used that during debt ceiling negotiations.

Why did he use the "Biden and McConnell are old pals" narrative instead of "Obama uses team to woo McConnell? The only two reasons I can think of are: propping up Biden for 2016 (God help us) and giving McConnell a little less heat for appearing to appease Comrade Obama.

Any thoughts?

I don't think there is going to be a Biden 2016 (at least not as the victor, he will likely try and run). I think it is mostly to avoid polarizing and he is trying to be more inclusive of a "team" thing.

What more could one ask for in a president? ;)

No, but in all seriousness, if Biden won the democratic nomination and a moderate Republican (if any still exist...) won the GOP nomination, would you vote Republican? Just wondering since you're a democrat

I would be in support of a Biden-McConnel ticket, up until election day.

Vice-President Biden is President of the U.S. Senate and Mitch McConnell is the minority leader. President Obama may want to show that he was willing to pursue bipartisan legislation, if possible.

I think its Neither..... When Obama tries to take credit on anything people fling sh*t at him, so why try to take credit when you know ppl wont give it to you?

The explanation I've heard is that to successfully conclude a negotiation, Nancy Pelosi cannot be in the room. She's such a strident ideologue, it's death to discussion. But if President Obama conducts the negotiation, then all four of the Congressional leaders have to participate, including Pelosi. Having Biden negotiate with McConnell keeps Pelosi out of it.

Famous Washington Post reporter Bob Woodard wrote about the debt ceiling negotiations that occurred 18 months ago. A "grand bargain" deal had been reached in which Boehner agreed to $900 billion in new taxes. Obama came back the the next day and killed the deal by demanding $1.6 trillion in new taxes. Biden is an experienced legislator who has experience cutting deals, so it helps keep the President from killing deals as well.

I've heard that McConnell came up with idea of using Biden. They worked together in the Senate.
