These are some well established facts that some people seem not to believe. There is, dare I say, a bubble that exists for some political movements that wants to deny these realities. Anyways, here are 10 facts that everyone should know but does not:

1.) Diversity tends to reduce social trust (http://www.vdare.com...).

2.) Countries where the state plays less of a role in economic activity (more economic freedom) have much higher standards of living than countries with more state control (http://www.terry.uga.edu...)

3.) A vast majority of terrorist related deaths are caused by Muslims (http://super-economy.blogspot.com...).

4.) The New Deal ended up worsening the Great Depression (http://www.econ.yale.edu...).

5.) Somalia has better off without any state than under the predatory state they had before the collapse (http://www.peterleeson.com...).

6.) Higher tax rates in Europe have led to a decline in hours worked relative to the USA. In other words, high taxes have reduced the amount of time people work in Western Europe (http://www.economics21.org...).

7.) The 2010 Health Care law will, indeed, increase the deficit (http://mercatus.org...).

8.) Most personality traits have very high heritabilities and variability is largely based on genetics (http://mercatus.org...).

9.) The American public school system actually compares fairly good to other systems once demographics are controlled for (http://super-economy.blogspot.com...).

10.) More educated and intelligent people tend to be more supportive of markets over statism (http://econlog.econlib.org...).

As a side note, I did use a couple blog posts in here. But, the blog posts use legitamite sources. So, for your own good, don't say "you just linked to some blog". If you have criticisms, criticize the content not the messenger.

Steve Sailer argued on VDARE following Hurricane Katrina that the lower average IQ of African-Americans found in intelligence research correlates with "poorer native judgment than members of better-educated groups resulting in the need for stricter moral guidance from society." He said that looting after the 1995 Kobe earthquake was minimal because "when you get down to it, Japanese aren't blacks."

Perhaps quoting Josef Mengele would have been more subtle.

2.) Countries where the state plays less of a role in economic activity (more economic freedom) have much higher standards of living than countries with more state control (http://www.terry.uga.edu...)

Index of Economic Freedoms

http://www.heritage.org...

1. Hong Kong - The local government has promised democratic reforms, but implementation has been delayed. Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, who took office July 1, 2012, was chosen by a 1,200-member Election Committee and then appointed by the government of China.

http://www.heritage.org...

2. Singapore - Singapore is a nominally(psst...that means "in name only") democratic state that has been ruled by the People"s Action Party (PAP) since independence in 1965.

3. Australia - Australia achieves universal coverage through Medicare, a tax-funded public insurance program that covers most medical care, including physician and hospital services and prescription drugs. Most health services are financed and regulated by the federal government, although the states and territories have responsibility for public hospital care. Besides Medicare, roughly half of Australians receive additional coverage through private insurance, which the government subsidizes and which covers such services as dental care and private hospitals.

3.) A vast majority of terrorist related deaths are caused by Muslims (http://super-economy.blogspot.com...).

And yet they only perpetrate 6% of terrorist acts. Are you simply bitter because they are proficient at it?

I thought that was the American way????

4.) The New Deal ended up worsening the Great Depression (http://www.econ.yale.edu...).

The massive spending brought by the American entry to the Second World War ultimately cured the nation's economic woes.

The Irish have the second shortest work week in Europe.

Quick...who can tell me what the corporate ax rate in Ireland is?

Now, who can tell me what the labour laws in Europe say about the average work week?

7.) The 2010 Health Care law will, indeed, increase the deficit (http://mercatus.org...).

Even a broken watch is right twice a day.

8.) Most personality traits have very high heritabilities and variability is largely based on genetics (http://mercatus.org...).

You didn't fix this.

9.) The American public school system actually compares fairly good to other systems once demographics are controlled for (http://super-economy.blogspot.com...).

Wow...you are a massive racist and hatemonger, aren't you?

10.) More educated and intelligent people tend to be more supportive of markets over statism (http://econlog.econlib.org...).

Canadian study published last month in the journal Psychological Science, which revealed that people with conservative beliefs are likely to be of low intelligence.

I'd say kudos on the intellectual take-down if it wasn't riddled with ad hominem. Ah Fck it. Kudos on the intellectual take-down.

These have been my criticisms of the criticisms against ad hominem elsewhere.

After reading what you read in my response to BigRacist, did you, for a single moment, think I was not up to the task of mentally disabling his weak, hateful argument?

If you were, you didn't read it (and, you did, so that wasn't directed at you).

Sprinkling in Ad Hominem (more liberally with some) to your arguments gives them "punch".

It's why everyone you know throughout histry for their debating skills does it.

Ad Hominem isn't the tool of the weak. Whining about it is.

I did read it, including the sources provided, just as I had read the original posts. That being said, the ability to debate without resorting to ad hominems isn't indicative of weakness, just like using ad hominems isn't indicative of strength. It just comes across as small and petty, and ultimately blurs the whole message.

Can't you just say, "Oops. I forgot about [enter any person throughout history you consider to be a great orator and debater HERE]."?

Name one historical debating great, and I will show you their liberal use of insults, both within a debate, and without.

Also, I DID NOT say that not using ad hominem makes one weak. I said whining about someone else using it does.

I am perfectly happy to have a civilized conversation with someone. Look, we are having a disagreement right this moment. Somehow, through what I'm sure everyone believes to be the greatest show of restraint I've ever displayed in here, I have yet to call you a "douchebag" as we've gone along.

How have I managed this?

It was relatively easy. You've not been a douchebag. If only we could get others to subscribe to this philosophy, think of what a great world this would be.

No, I can't. You make it out as-if people are great orators or debaters because they hurl ad hominems. We both know this isn't the case.

Also, I DID NOT say that not using ad hominem makes one weak. I said whining about someone else using it does.

Are you implying that I'm whining about it, and further implying that I'm weak for whining about it?

That's probably because I'm not a douchebag!

How have I managed this?

It was relatively easy. You've not been a douchebag.

Except... It wasn't. World War II brought about some temporary employment and growth in the mid 1940s, but it had next to nothing to do with post war growth. Post war growth came about once some of the nasty New Deal regulations were finally rolled back (spending and taxes cut, unions rolled back).

I'm a racist for making a factual statement.

10.) More educated and intelligent people tend to be more supportive of markets over statism (http://econlog.econlib.org...).

Canadian study published last month in the journal Psychological Science, which revealed that people with conservative beliefs are likely to be of low intelligence.

Lol. No link. Also, conservative probably means social conservative. That is true. However, more intelligent people tend to support markets. Statists and big government are meatheads.

Again, social conservatives are dumber than social liberals but the dumbest group are statists. Smart people support social liberalism but also markets.

I noticed another liberal said this was an "intellectual takedown". How ridiculous. Everything you said here was either a flat out ad hom, flat out wrong, or very misleading. This response was the real intellectual takedown.

Yes. That study looked at SOCIAL CONSERVATIVES. When looking at economic views, the opposite is true.

Socialism is the philosophy of the dumb.

Which came after I showed that the site you quoted was a haven for "White Power".

I said Singapore and Hong Kong have a lot of ECONOMIC freedom which they do. So does Australia. Medical services is just one sector.

How does one have "economic freedom" in a dictatorship?

They are responsible for the deaths. Are you defending the Muslims because they are good at killing people?

I'm not defending them. I'm putting them in perspective. 94% of terrorist acts on American soil are committed by other nationalities.

Except... It wasn't. World War II brought about some temporary employment and growth in the mid 1940s, but it had next to nothing to do with post war growth. Post war growth came about once some of the nasty New Deal regulations were finally rolled back (spending and taxes cut, unions rolled back).

It is EXACTLY why growth happened. We were the only industrial nation of any consequence left on the planet which hadn't been destroyed. Add that to all the money which BOTH men and women had due to the long period of employment and inability to spend a majority of the income from that employment and there ya go - economic recovery.

BUT

Economic recovery always means that people are divesting and consuming, which will eventually bring the next economic downtime.

Compared to the awful state, Somalia is better off stateless right now.

Please note - BigRat believes that a state run by pirates is better than one run by a government...in case anyone was thinking of taking him seriously about anything else.

aaaaaaaaaaaargh.

Well, it is high LABOR tax rates that have led to the decline. High corporate tax rates have hurt business growth but not labor market participation. And, this is a Nobel Prize Winner who found this relationship.

It's European labor law, and whoever the nobel prize winner was, I can easily discredit his findings. I built a payroll system for Europe, and trust me...the companies want these people to work more. They simply refuse.

I'm a racist for making a factual statement.

I missed any facts in what you wrote. Could you list a few out again?

Lol. No link. Also, conservative probably means social conservative. That is true. However, more intelligent people tend to support markets. Statists and big government are meatheads.

Probably? How do you know this?

Also, it's pretty easy to see that you're socially conservative as well. You're a Christian, aren't you?

First, VDARE is not a haven for white power. Even if it was, why don't you actually adress the study, from a very esteemed Harvard Professor, that it was reporting on?

How does one have "economic freedom" in a dictatorship?

Because, people are free to keep their earnings and investment income, unions don't have a ton of power, regulations are low. Political freedom and economic freedom are different things.

I'm not defending them. I'm putting them in perspective. 94% of terrorist acts on American soil are committed by other nationalities.

What makes terrorist such a problem?

The deaths it causes. Almost all of these deaths are caused by Muslims so that is the problem.

You really don't understand economics (odd for an econ major).

Anyways, what leads to growth is capital investment. Having massive war spending does not lead to sustained growth. Economic indicators may indicate short term growth (and they did) but the real recovery in living standards occurred after the war when the New Deal was (partially) rolled back.

Please note - BigRat believes that a state run by pirates is better than one run by a government...in case anyone was thinking of taking him seriously about anything else.

aaaaaaaaaaaargh.

You're the one who has shown himself as one to not be taken seriously.

The latest example of your ignorance: a state run by pirates versus a state run by the government... How idiotic.

Somalia is better WITHOUT a state than with a predatory state. Please, why do you even bother trying to sound smart?

It's European labor law, and whoever the nobel prize winner was, I can easily discredit his findings. I built a payroll system for Europe, and trust me...the companies want these people to work more. They simply refuse.

No, it is high labor taxes. And, yes, companies in Europe are looking for more workers. I believe that. The problem is high labor taxes and large welfare payments discourage Europeans from entering the labor market.

Ed Prescott, a nobel prize winner, knows a lot more about this than you do.

I missed any facts in what you wrote. Could you list a few out again?

Americans perform better in school than other countries when controlled for demographics.

Probably? How do you know this?

Also, it's pretty easy to see that you're socially conservative as well. You're a Christian, aren't you?

Well. It's not easy to see. I am a Christian, but I really don't consider myself socially conservative or liberal. But, yes, I am probably more socially conservative than liberal.

Regardless, even if I am socially conservative, I acknowledge that social conservatives are, on average, less intelligent. That doesn't make me abandon my ideology.

A lot of statists and anti market folks seem to think that they have the more intelligent on their side when the exact opposite is true. The fact that the more statist are less intelligent does not discredit statism (empirical and logical evidence have done that) but it does contradict something that many statists seem to think.

Philosophical input is just as valuable as scientific input. May I also point out that 30% or more of scientific facts that were common sense 200-300 years ago are know disproven. Does this mean that anyone who fully trusts science as 100% correct and legitimate is ignorant? I think so.

Adding on to this discussion, surveys have shown self described Democrats and liberals are much less knowledgable on economics than self described Republicans, conservatives, and libertarians:

http://online.wsj.com...

The reason is obvious. Liberals and Democrats have really dumb economic beliefs (malcolmxy's economic views are an example of this). They talk down to others a lot about economics, but in reality the economic views of modern progressivism and liberalism is about the intellectual equivalent of Young Earth Creationism (denial that supply of demand with regards to wages and such). Anyways, they have to believe really stupid things to justify the irrational economic policies they support. And, research shows that they do.

Also along the lines of something posted earlier, do not trust any posted data on face value without a common sense check, which requires a basic understanding of philosophy and psychology and the nature of man and what drives him and what he is likely to do in given scenarios.

Really surprising that a great many so-called liberal arts graduates fail to understand even the basics of the nature of man.
