Epsilon: There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith.

Can't really commit to anything serious, so yes.

Well, you're married. So I hope that's not entirely true. ;)

My conspiracy is that James Cameron hired M Night Shyamalan to make a super sh*tty "Avatar the Last Airbender" movie so that Camerons movie that was also named 'Avatar' would not be as confused with the other one and get more people to watch it

I also believe that Justin Bieber hired Rebecca Black to make him look good as a singer

Mass murder suicide pills.

And start to dream of somewhere
To relax their restless flight
Somewhere out of a memory of lighted streets on quiet nights..."

That's rather vanilla.

Mine is that everyone is actually both satisfied with the general state of things as well as generally sadistic (qualifying this comfort), but pretend not to be either, as complete satisfaction frightens most people and acknowledgement of sadism makes people guilty.

Well, for it to be a conspiracy it needs intention. I still think it's an interesting thought, though.

Oh, of course it has intention. The very stability of the contemporary way of life depends on it.

Based on your justification, it sounds like this would be a perennial attribute of human culture, and not devised by anyone in specific. It doesn't really fit the definition of conspiracy theory.

I would say it's those who instigate and perpetuate such cultures, wouldn't you?

In other words, those in control.

I guess your contention, if I'm not mistaken, is whether one could narrow that down to any specific and distinct group of individuals.

I'd say yes. Perhaps that concept alone would satisfy your definition?

Well then your conspiracy would have to be that a group of people are instigating a culture such that "complete satisfaction frightens most people and acknowledgement of sadism makes people guilty" would be a prevalent phenomena among the people.

I don't see why this would be necessary to explain the phenomena you're describing.
