There was a petition on the change.org website that called for the president to intervene and ban Ben Affleck from being batman, or any other superhero, for the next 200 years.

It has since been deleted, but before it was it said:

"I am asking you Mr President, to make it illegal for Benjamin Geza Affleck Boidt (Also known as Ben Affleck, or that guy that ruined Dare Devil) to act in or be a part in any movie related to super heroes.

Ben Affleck should not portray Batman or any other super hero on film or the Sy-Fy network. We are concerned Americans, who care about our fictional heroes, often more then the ones that actually existed

I am sure Mr Affleck is a nice guy, but he has a history of ruining films that he doesnt star, direct, produce, and cater all by himself.

Batman is at least an American, Clark Kent wasnt even born on Earth and Ben Affleck isnt even his real full name

Batman is a scientist, you can be a hero"

Can we have, instead, a petition to ban any further Batman movies. Period....?

What I don't get is, if it's such a box office gamble to make actually creative movies, then why don't they just adapt more already successful novels?

People also forget that people didnt want Daniel Craig to be the next Bond either.

I'd personally want Nicolas Cage as Batman. Seriously.

Honestly, while that movie was terrible and I blame him for being in it, it just demonstrates bad judgment, not lack of ability. If the movie would be good, I don't think him being in it will make it suffer. He just won't know to say "hey, that's a stupid idea"

Eh Daredevil mostly suffered from shitty writing IMO. And Affleck is a much better actor now than he was then.

It would be interesting. But Nick Cage isn't gay enough. Clooney made it work. And Christian Bale... yum.

because creativity is dying in hollywood. It's not enough that so many of the movies have the same general motifs, but now they're just outright regurgitating the same material that's decades old. :P

no; just any fictional bestsellers whose authors agree to an adaptation.

That stories are being recycled is really nothing new, though -either in Hollywood or in literary publication. The problem, I think, is when old stories are retold poorly -like in the most recent Batman movie. Even still, the Dark Knight was amazing.

The reason I ask about Atonement is because it's one of the best novels I've ever read, (Ian McEwan), and the movie is breathtaking. It's not really a classic (published in 2001, I think?) but still exceptional. It was made into a movie in 2007.

What was so bad about Dark Night Rises, story-wise?

The only criticism I ever heard about Craig playing bond was his eye color, or something like that. It didn't fit the description.

The reason I said it was retold poorly was because I was measuring it against the Dark Knight, which was considerably better. I just didn't like The Dark Knight Rises... really, at all.

I also wasn't fond of the new Superman movie, for what it's worth. The Dark Knight and Watchmen remain the two best comic book movies, I think, ever made though.

Thast simply unfair to the Dark Knight Rises though since the Dark Knight is easily the best batman movie ever made. Take away the Dark Knight then the best Batman movie is easily The Dark Knight Rises since it was loads better then Batman Begins and all other Batman movies prior to the Nolan trilogy are simply ancient.

I just didn't like The Dark Knight Rises... really, at all.

I also wasn't fond of the new Superman movie, for what it's worth.

Compared to what, Superman returns? of the 6 Superman movies that were made, the first four were pretty trashy and that leaves you with Superman Returns and Man of Steel.

The Dark Knight and Watchmen remain the two best comic book movies, I think, ever made though.

That I wont dispute.

You're right that it's an immeasurably high standard, and that such a standard is probably not fair -but they're part of the same franchise so I can't not measure it by what came before it. I mean, good franchises can survive that metric (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, James Bond to a lesser extent, etc.). Bad ones, less so.
