If you are raped in Saudi Arabia, you can be sentenced to 200 lashes and a prison sentence.

----

"SAUDI lawyer Abd al-Rahman al-Lahim had the temerity to draw the world"s attention to the fact that a court had sentenced a 19-year-old rape victim to 90 lashes.

The resultant publicity so enraged the Saudi judiciary it has INCREASED the sentence imposed on the young woman to 200 lashes, plus six months in jail.

And the court punished al-Lahem too " banning him from further defending the woman, confiscating his license and summoning him to a disciplinary hearing later this month."

--

This is among the most disgusting things I have seen come out of the Middle East, and Islamic courts generally. That is especially significant, because filth and barbarism from Islamic Law as interpreted in the Middle East is in no short supply.

This is a human rights abomination, and the Saudi government should be ashamed.

This would be one of the lesser reasons Saudi Arabia is an abomination.

TW: Rape discussion.

Not evenly remotely limited to Saudi Arabia. The same exists for Iran and Egypt, Morocco, Venezuela, Indonesia, Cameroon, Algeria, Iraq, Syria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Chad., Heck even Denmark and Russia have legislation that amounts to the same. Iran can also force under aged girls to marry their step father. China recently arrested activists complaining about the police force in relation to rape related deaths. Dubai recently jailed a Norwegian tourist after she went to a police station to report a rape.

Isn't homosexuality punishable by death there?
