So I was reading something on yahoo's front page. Some guy named Tim Pawlenty wants to run for President in 2012. He is republican, but the headline was:
"Our version of Obama"
Now I was thinking, if the republicans voted against Obama, WHY WOULD THEY WANT ANOTHER VERSION OF HIM?

Anyway, what do you think about him? He looks like an average door to door sales man to me. Do you think anyone has a chance at beating Obama in 2012?

Pawlenty is no Obama, by any stretch of the imagination. He's a nerdy, moderately-known governor who has no new ideas and barely any support. He's not a bad guy, but he isn't going to generate Obama hype.

He is no Obama, but could do well.

Somethings i do not like:

Strongly Favors a Mandatory Three Strikes sentencing laws
Opposes Absolute right to gun ownership
Strongly Favors Drug use is immoral: enforce laws against it
Strongly Opposes The Patriot Act harms civil liberties

But we will see.

As comoncents said, he's too socially conservative. I do not intend to vote for him in the primaries.

I agree, unless he changes in a big way.
I don't like Bobby Jindal for that same reason.

He is not anti gun, just likes things a little more strict.
It would be harder to own a gun if he were prez. And if you have a record, you would have a crazy hard time.

Does the three strikes rule only apply to felonies?

Three strikes law
In 1994, California introduced a "three strikes law", which was the first mandatory sentencing law to gain widespread publicity. Similar laws were subsequently adopted in most United States jurisdictions. The law requires imprisonment for a minimum term of 25 years after a defendant is convicted of a third serious felony.

Seriously? Obama is charismatic as all heck and a good speaker - republicans want someone like that. I would say Bobby Jindal but he's not charismatic.

It is unconstitutional and imposes on freedom.
If you begin compromising your freedom it will only be a matter of time before they start doing things like taxing your income, oh wait...

I didn't realize that we were overly concerned about the 'freedom' of people with criminal records. On the other hand I'm 10 times less likely than you to get shot dead, and my free health care will neutralize if not negate the amount I pay in income tax in the long run... I'm perfectly happy with the way things are thank you.

Evidence shows the contrary. When you limit guns the crime rate goes up.
