In the efforts for Israeli-Palestinian peace over the last number of months, Israel placed a new condition requiring the Palestinian Authority to recognize the right of Israel to have a Jewish identity.

This pronounced right is more frequently popping up in various context. Recently the Guardian posted a position from Israel's PM, Netanyahu in terms of illegal immigration from Africa and the risk it posses to maintaining a Jewish majority in the country. *1*

The "marketing" of this new effort to guarantee the ethnic and religious majority of the country, is even going outside of Isreal with programs to extend the Jewish identity over seas. The program slated to start in 2015 will spend $300 million per year to engage young Jews in Diasporia with hopes to create more ties to Israel and help maintain the Jewish identity. *2*

How far of a right does Israel have to control the ethnic & religious make up of her people?

How far can a true democracy go when it practices ethic and religious bias?

The US will have a white minority in the not so distant future. Why is the standard of not supporting an ethnicity and/or religion not the gold standard which other democracies are held to?
