I have a debate at my school next week, on this very topic.

This past year, the movement known as BDS (Boycott Divestment Sanctions), has picked up a lot of steam against Israel. It began as a call by Palestinians for non-violent resistance to the ongoing Israeli occupation, much like the international boycott imposed on Apartheid South Africa.

Although boycotts of Israel have been around since, well, 1948, they haven't really gone mainstream until recently. In the last few years, European banks and businesses have divested from companies operating/profiting from the Israeli occupation. Academic institutions across the world (including the US) are debating the issue of BDS, and some have passed Boycott-Israel resolutions through their legislatures. Both the US and Israeli governments have acknowledged the growing impact of BDS, as well as the potential dangers for Israel.

My question is simple. With the arrival of BDS on the world-stage, do you think a boycott of Israel is just? Why or why not?
