As a Liberal, there are certain objectives I have for the United States:

1. Universal Health Care
2. A social safety net that ensures that no American will live in destitute poverty
3. Universal and College Education for anyone who has a combined Math and Science SAT score greater than 1100.

But, the people who will benefit from these most are the poor, who tend to be homophobic white trash that would deny my right to marry the man I love.

Seems like a remarkably conservative way of looking at things.

I always thought being a liberal was about being fair to people rather than pushing a moral agenda.

I mean to say a personal moral agenda, I suppose. The state exists to help people no matter who they are, right?

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. I think that's what I believed... but as you point out, the state is composed of people, who don't seem to be particularly nice.

I'm not being sarcastic. It's just hard to want to help people who aren't nice. It would be so easy for me to be a libertarian, and just say "Fvck the poor. Their problems are not mine. If they're stupid enough to make decisions that are good for me, or stupid enough to be persuaded to vote for my interests over theirs, that's their business. Let me just go donate to this tea bagging super pac to be sure that they do.. it's a salutary investment in my financial future."

Yeah, it's really hard, but everyone always says that without struggle there is no progress, that you can't get anywhere without suffering; so I try. I wish everyone would start repeating that platitude when it comes to politics instead of reserving it for school, careers, sports etc.

Be the change you want to see in others, lead by example, there are actually endless platitudes on this subject haha.

If you get really technical, medicaid and medicare is universal healthcare. The definition of UH is "medical protection for all citizens". We now do this. Insurance will be adjusted to your income, and if you have no income, it will be given for free.
2. A social safety net that ensures that no American will live in destitute poverty
Welfare? EITC? Elmore, Energy Assistance, CNA1963, ect.
3. Universal and College Education for anyone who has a combined Math and Science SAT score greater than 1100.
Pell Grants. Otherwise, education should be provided up to Associates degree for community colleges.

But, the people who will benefit from these most are the poor, who tend to be homophobic white trash that would deny my right to marry the man I love.
I think this was a bit of a scapegoat. Not a rational approach on why some people vote conservative. In actuality, the majority of lower income people vote democrat. It's really more of a religious thing, which people correlate with Mississippi, who is both poor and fundamental. Although they voted for a social conservative recently, so even there we can see the poor know which side benefits them.

America's more liberal than people give us credit for. The problem is with a lack of money and how we can appropriate our budgets. If it weren't for the fact we were needlessly spending into NASA, the army, and other institutions which drain our money, then I would be advocating for the abolition of VA, Medicare, and free energy. Hell, if we didn't have the money for Section 6 housing, then I would ask for that to be abolished as well. Fiscal accountability needs to come first.

I associate with the democrats because I feel people have it the wrong way on which party is being fiscally responsible. ACA? I never got that. The alternative was to expand Medicaid. The CBO predicts that the ACA will break through two spending deficits on both Medicaid and Medicare, while also making 10's of billions in revenue. Some social initiatives are economic initiatives, something the gerrymandering GOP can't seem to realize.
How about NO elections?

I'd like to know your views on how to achieve number 2.

I disagree with you on number 1 and 3 as a result of my opinion on the role of government, but I can be convinced of number 3, because number 3 seems like an investment more than anything.

Can you elaborate on number 3 for me, if you feel inclined to do so?

I think your trolling with the last statement, but just in case. They'll come around. Society always does come around in regards to things like that. Either way screw what they think. Do the right thing no matter what.

Well, I meant math and english.... but yeah.

I want it to be completely paid for by taxpayer dollars, and I'm happy to raise taxes to do it. However (having worked at a university), I can tell you that they waste money like crazy... especially public universities. So, there are some real pecuniary challenges to overcome there.

I don't think he's trolling--I think he's noting something that troubles him. It's hard to WANT to help people who are trying to kick you in the nards, even if you do it anyway on principle.
