On Sunday, December 27, 2014, Leelah Alcorn a 17 year old transgender youth wrote a suicide note, posted it on Tumblr and then walked in front of a semi-truck tragically ending her life. Leelah explained how her parents had forced her to attend conversion therapy, pulled her out of school and isolated her in an attempt to change her gender identity. 'Conversion therapies' have been documented to cause great harms and in this case, Leelah's death. Therapists that engage in the attempt to brainwash or reverse any child's gender identity or sexual orientation are seriously unethical and legislation is needed to end such practices that are resulting in LGBTQ+ deaths. We respectfully seek your help to ban the practice known as 'conversion therapy' and name the bill in honor of Leelah Alcorn.

I would almost sign, but let me ask you this. If a person is of majority age and wishes to go to therapy because they have a incongruity between their moral beliefs and gender identity why should the state stop them?

I know that conversion therapy is extremely unsuccessful and can be very emotionally challenging to those forced into it. Does it result in suicide or other harmful effects in a high enough % of cases that it warrants outlawing?

It is despicable what these parents did to their kid in the name of God, but I am not entirely convinced that conversion therapy breaches a level where it needs to be outlawed.

Maybe it needs to be more attention to quack therapists. Is it possible these therapists were negligent in widening the incongruity than reducing it? That is also a tough area to go into, but we don't allow medical doctors to sell snake oil, why should psychologists be able to?

No.
And to claim that this therapy caused this death is wholly grandstanding. (is that the right word? It doesn't sound right)
