The AK Party lost it's majority in Parliament--the first time it has not had a majority in 13 years. Below are some links that talk about the election. What are your thoughts on the result?

At least that means Turkey's a little bit less likely to end up like Russia. That's good.

I mean, Erdogan and his party sounds a whole lot like Putin and United Russia.

I agree that the outcome of the election is positive. Not just because the HDP's rise will be a good influence on things like gay and women's rights, but also because it disrupts the efforts of the AK Party to centralize power. My one concern is that Turkey may be unable to form a coalition government, and that would force another round of elections. Turkey, as the only NATO member in the Middle East, needs to be stable, and this election has the potential to undermine that. Still, I think that forming a coalition shouldn't be too difficult if the MHP cooperates, so hopefully it will turn out for the best.

Perhaps, but the difference is that Putin would never lose. Erdogan at least has the decency to not fudge the numbers.

It's vital that Turkey doesn't fall into civil war. They allow for a very large NATO shoreline on the Black Sea, and they'd allow for a quick NATO response to a situation in the Caucasus region. Plus, they could block off NATO forces from reaching the Black Sea if they allied with Putin.
Turkey's important. It mustn't be lost.

I am not suggesting civil war. That would be extremely unlikely...I am suggesting that Turkey might just be a bit politically fragmented.
