I'm not sure how many of you are aware, but the Australian public will be going to the poll booths this saturday to vote in our next leader.
It is compulsary to vote in Australia, which with an election like this one I find to be a complete JOKE.
So I will not be voting for either Labour, Liberal or the Greens or any independant.
I will be following the advice of ex-Labour leader Mark Latham and lodging a 'Donkey vote'.

blank ballot? Are there no joke federal parties in Australia? (besides the obvious answer that every party is a joke)

Lazy imo. If you have no political interest then fine, but by relegating all as bad you are saying all are equally bad which is just not the case. Either you have a particular political bent in mind or not. If not then condemning any party is baseless, if you do then researching which one supports your side more than another would justify a vote somewhere.

Also, what is wrong with Mark Latham?

Nope.

Also, what is wrong with Mark Latham?

He is quite crazy, incompetent, and the bullet that was luckily dodged.

Ok. It was after all, only a feeling.

WHAT?! It is completely necessary and highly desirable. We're falling more and more behind the world standard.

Yep.

Why? I don't want to be looking at Tony Abbots head for 3 years. Hopefully he will lose the election and be shipped off to Antartica or something.

Three reasons:

1. Julia Gillard annoys me

2. The fact that Labor panicked and got rid of Rudd when they should have stuck with him is very telling of the confidence the people in government actually have

3. Abbott could be worse

I STRONGLY agree with your second point, but I can't vote liberal. I don't trust them.

Does it really matter who you vote for? You could vote for Mickey Mouse for all the difference it would make. Don't worry yourself thinking about things that do not matter.

Would you vote for Ron Paul if he were on the ballot?

Arguing over the internet has a lesser chance of changing policy than voting. hth

Ya do realise that is almost word for word from the propaganda? Show me the statistics. The upgrade will only benefit those who use dial up access. The system will be fixed point, not wireless. It will not provide any better service than those low dial up speeds at far less usefulness than wireless networks.. It is costed as of now at 43 billion dollars with an expected return rate in around 30 years, it has poor planning, makes a massive load of assumptions that are unlikely. It's a sinkhole of waste.

Yep.

Economic policy is different, immigration is different, labour laws policies are different, tax policies are different, welfare policies are different, education policies are different, environment policy is different ... and so on.

Labours history, and it hasn't changed this election is massive infrastructure expansion at poorly thought out projects at massive cost to the economy (see current debt accrued in 3 years).

Australia's conservative party was the Democrats which is basically a defunct party.

Not so. Converting multiple people surely has much more effect than a single vote in an election with millions of voters, unless the election is unusually close and it breaks or makes a tie.

Besides, I do this for the fun of it. Whereas I don't think I'd take much pleasure from waiting in long lines to vote.

@Puck: What you don't take in to account is the fact I work in the telecommunications industry and Labours broadband plan will give me years worth of work.

I was going to dummy vote as I did last time but then I heard of the Australian sex party. They want to legalize pot, decriminalize all drugs, eliminate religious tax-exempt status and introduce an r rating for video games so we don't get watered down versions. They will be getting my vote for sure.

I'm very well aware of the Australian Sex Party. Where do they give their preferences.

We have a sex party here, but they're f*cked up as they actually want to legalize child pornography. One of my friends actually liked their platform until she stumbled across that bit. That made her lose all respect for them.

Dunno man, I don't even know what that means to be honest. I'm hoping there's just a box to tick to vote for them coz if I've gotta f*ck around with preferences and crud I'll just dummy vote it.

Dude. That is the party I belong in. I'm going to Australia next summer but I guess I can't vote.
INH, what kind of child porn? Like 5 year olds or 16 year olds? For wide distribution or so dumb stuff like a bunch of teens being deemed "child porn distributers/pedos" for the rest of their life because they got a few pics of someone's gf.
