I just saw that John Boehner is stepping down from his position as Speaker and resigning from his representative position in Congress completely.

Thoughts?

Good, he's been a big Obama fan the entire time. He should've been fired a long time ago.

I think he has realized that there is nothing that he can do to break the status quo, and as such, there is no point in his continuing to try.

Much as I disagree with the policies he supports, I understand and am sympathetic to the hopeless position he was in, which he has now relieved himself of.

I've certainly mocked him, but today there is no reason to restate that... as bad as Boehner was, who will take his place will be far worse; of that we can be certain.

However, there is hope in the sense that this substantially strengthens the Democrat's hand in 2016, I think Boehner knows this, and that for the good of the party he has to let the fire that has divided the GOP since the tea baggers came on the scene burn out on its own.

That is not even remotely close to accurate.

He's caved to Obama so many times it's sickening. He's raised taxes, gone after conservative groups, raised the debt ceiling and other terrible things that only an Obama crony would support.

Okay. There is no reality where this is accurate, though. The obstructionist GOP have caused one of the worst times in the entire party's history.

I agree to the extent that destruction includes only the redefining of the GOP's place in American politics in such a way as will acutely constrain, their ability to accomplish anything in the way of their objectives.

To that end, I look forward to Hillary's campaigning against the Republican party generally, in the sense that she will not only be running against whoever gets the nomination (read: Trump). There is no better boogy-man than tea bagging congressmen, whom I expect to come into play in the coming election, because the disastrousness of their ideas is too ripe to ignore.

Okay. There is no reality where this is accurate, though. The obstructionist GOP have caused one of the worst times in the entire party's history.

https://www.teapartypatriots.org...

For example:

Claim 1: Boehner led the House to fund Obamacare

Firstly, Boehner is decidedly against the ACA, saying it "puts a tax or penalty on employers for every new job they create" (factually it doesn't, since it doesn't apply to all businesses). He has led several attempts to repeal the ACA and has even tried to sue the administration over how they implement it: http://www.huffingtonpost.com...

Secondly, the ACA has been declared Constitutional. It's law now. Full stop.

Claim 3: Boehner supports amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Boehner: "We're looking at this. These are laws that are on the books. The are required to be enforced, there is no ifs ands or buts here. The fact is that some cities have decided to ignore the law, it is wrong. It is flat out wrong...

I've been trying to do immigration reform for four years. The president said 22 times that he didn't have the authority to do what he eventually did. What the president has done is he has poisoned the well, he has stirred up the American people in such a way so it would be almost impossible to pass immigration reform given the environment that we are dealing with."

Furthermore, Boehner voted YES on building a fence along the border and tried to declare English the official language of the United States.

Claim: He supported increasing the debt ceiling.

You mean he actually tried to make Congress do its job and pass a budget? THE HUMANITY!!!!

Why is it good to make your opposing party the only significant party? The Tea Party (thank God) will never become a major movement. It's a fringe extremist group that succeeded in pushing the GOP to the right at the cost of the support of America, since most Americans are moderate.

That Tea Party article looks like it was written by the Young Conservatives if they were in their 50s, but still with the writing and cognitive-processing abilities of an 8 year old.

The party is dissolving before my eyes. This is nothing short of historic. The actual GOP is a bit of history.
