Actually i would consider eliminating their income taxes because it's essentially circular and unnecessary.

The government gives someone money, and takes a portion of it, and then gives it back again?

And give them a pay raise? We're supposed to be cutting spending here.

Would likely be counter-productive. Since government spends every cent it gets through taxes, plus a bunch extra, they would probably use that additional revenue to give government employees raises above and beyond the tax increases.
Should we subsidize education?

OH I NEVER SAID GIVE THEM A RAISE. No no, we would reduce their wage as it would be appropriate. It would be more efficient.

No, eliminate their income taxes and cut their pay proportionally.

A pay cut sounds so much more harsh than a tax increase though. I think we should take the path of least resistance.

I don't think it's fair to call taxes on government employees "taxes"as they are effectively nothing but a pay cut. Nevertheless, I'd imagine giving teachers significant pay cuts would cause riots in the streets. But raising their taxes an equal amount would not.

Meh, but saying "we're going to raise taxes on teachers" wouldn't be much better. Plus, there are legal problems with raising taxes on a specific group of people.

Yeah, i'm not terribly concerned about rioting teachers, besides they probably have that day off anyway.

Why don't we stop paying them?
If politicians and government officials don't get paid won't it be less corrupt?

No, it effing wouldn't. If they don't actually get paid anything, they'd be more likely to take bribes. Happy? Now GTFO.
