The article, as brief as it is, only suggests Julian Castro is A person Clinton is looking into as a possible VP pick, not as the ONLY person Clinton is looking into as a possible VP pick. He's the current Secretary of Urban housing and development under Obama, he was a 3 time mayor of San Antonio, he's hispanic, and he presented the keynote address at the 2012 Dem convention, being the first Hispanic to do so.

Thoughts about him as a VP pick? To me he seems like a solid move by Hillary to try to woo the Hispanic vote to the Dem side in the general election (even though the GOP have done more than enough to p*ss off hispanic voters on their own already)

I know very little about him, but just off the cuff it seems a little staged.

Not that a little pandering is a bad thing, I just think this may play that way.

Now... Sanders would need to pick a model of perfect health. The guy is old, and looks it.

Just to make my life even more tough, Sanders would pick someone like Barney Frank - Then I can add gay atheists to the list of personal shi1t I would have to defend for them.

But isn't the VP pick more of a strategic pick for both sides to sway voters who may not have originally voted for the presidential nominee? I mean in the past 30 years or so, it doesn't seem like there is ever much focus on the VP, unless it's election time. I mean sure they come up in the media from time to time, but overall, the VP is "in the shadows".

Yea, a VP choice is tactical - no doubt.

Thats exactly what a VP pick does, it tries to consolidate and expand a voter base. The entire reason McCain picked Palin is because his team thought Palin would help McCain better appeal to women voters

I'm about a 7.

I so wish I could drum-up more inner excitement - its just not there. The chance of me putting any time into her campaign (aside from on-line) is about zero.

I don't know why, but ever since the debate, I have this feeling Joe Biding will finally say, "It's time."

I have personally seen Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Howard Dean, Kerry, Obama, Biden. They each have an ability (yes, even Kerry) to ignite excitement around themselves. She has none.

I disagree. But, really, it doesn't matter too much so long as she wins.

1) Yea, my comment was more personal. Sure there are excited Hillary supporters - just not me.
2) If she is the nominee, I think our chances are very good.

I am mildly excited. My mom is basically freaking out though. She was a massive Hillary supporter in 2008 and hated Obama's guts. She almost voted for McCain in protest, but ended up voting Obama. She figured that McCain would probably drop dead and leave us with Palin had he won...and Palin as President is a legitimately scary thought.

2) If she is the nominee, I think our chances are very good.

Agreed. I think any of our candidates (except Chaffee...why the hell is he even running?) would be better than any GOP candidate.

If Clinton picked Castro as her VP, I would hope she won the election and then immediately died.

Mayor of San Antonio for 5 years...what experience lol. I hate that this guy is actually considered for VP when we have O'Malley

But Castro appeals to people far more than O'Malley does, as evidenced by how O'Malley is polling at a whopping 1% at the moment. That gives him greater value as a VP pick since a VP is supposed to put together a broader voter coalition for a candidate

They usually announce the VP pick at the convention, which is in August of next year, so I doubt they are thinking about this now. The nominee will not really be choosing next year , it will be more like accepting whoever wants the job.

When you have a lead the size of Hillary's the VP conversation happens much sooner than you'd otherwise suspect
