They eat lunch, which, like all Canadian meals, consists of Canadian bacon, maple syrup, and snow.

I thought they only won 184, which gives them a 14 seat majority. I am kinda sad...I would've preferred a Liberal-NDP coalition.

Coalitions suck. You're better to implement one vision and then judge the results than design by committee.

Not really. Coalition governments tend to be a lot better on average. They are more inclusive, prevent people from railroading legislation through, etc.

We had coalition governments in Canada. It isn't better. You sit around sloshing in the middle instead of having someone able to bite the bullet and make the tough, but unpopular decisions. Compromise gets you poorly implemented unfocused legislation.

Why do you think politics is on constantly in the US? Because you have 3 branches of government that can never agree on anything so you never get anything done but "politicing". Here we elect someone, they get 4 years to implement their policies with the loyal opposition contesting the legislation and bringing errors in it to light. We make decisions and we live with them. The scales then shift to the opposition, who removes the parts that didn't work and implement their ideas.

I disagree. Some coalitions produce that result, but the NDP and Liberals are close enough ideologically that I don't think you'd get "unfocused" or "poorly implemented" legislation. Coalitions are a great way of internally checking governments as well, preventing any one party from running riot in the system.

Only 1 seat for the Greens... I really thought they would get at least 2 or 3 this time around, especially in Vancouver Island, which I swear is the only place they campaigned.

The Bloc won 10 seats, which is too much. I think we can safely say Quebec separatism is dead, with their liberal provincial gov't, and I don't see any reason for that party to stick around. Not to mention Gilles Duceppe lost in his riding, that makes him a leader who resigned, only to come back, run another election, and then resign again.

The NDP were running a pretty good campaign right up until Mulcair took on the whole niqab debate. The majority of Canadians wanted it banned at citizenship ceremonies, but it was such a useless debate because the Supreme Court already ruled against it, Mulcair would've been better to just leave it alone. He's a good politician, and a useful MP in the house, but he was a stunningly bad campaigner. And whoever wrote his lines for him needs to be fired.

Healthcare [awkward pause], Pharmacare [awkward pause], Mulcair

The CPC once again failed to bring in any voters, but they didn't lose any. That's a tough base to move, but the Liberals got like 5 seats in Alberta, including 1 in Calgary, which is a big breakthrough.

Trudeau is an intellectual lightweight who has never had to work or produce in his life. What are his accomplishments other than being son of a former Prime Minister? Diddly squat. He gives nothing but platitudes. Here we are the envy of the G7 with a balanced (surplus) budget with surpluses over the next few years and he wants to send us back into deficit.

He engages in class warfare pitting people against the "rich". In this country we have just reached the point where those over 65 > those under 65. We have a real fertility problem. Yet he is going to reverse many of the things that enable families to have multiple children.

Finally, he lets emotionalism overcome reality. He doesn't like military conflict. So instead of bombing ISIS as they drove people out of their homes he wants to show the victims how to survive in the mountains they've been driven into. WTF? He is not a man who has to lead a nation and make hard decisions.

All he did was copy Obama and talk up "hope and change". Sadly our nation fell for it.

Correction: those over 65 outnumber those under 15.

When you're in opposition you all sound the same. When you are governing you show your differences. If by checking you mean compromise and bills will all sorts of extra crud as payoffs to get the crucial legislation passed, you are correct.

Can't you dumb a** Americans even remember that we don't have a president. We have a parliamentary system with a Prime Minister. Your country is the most powerful on earth but you population is fat, stupid, insular and uninformed about anything beyond your county, and I mean county, not country. Don't take this personally.

The irony here is that in their utter delusion that Harper was an extreme conservative pushing for a dystopian Canada ruled by a group of rich elites, the left just handed government over to someone who's sole qualification for office is that his dad was PM and that a bunch of rich elites like him.

Oh, please. say SORRY!!! apparently we Canadians are good at it. A lot of Americans are fat and stupid and the great super power has lost its way. I would rather they found their way back but it won't happen.. Most Americans will tell you so. I like Americans in general, and I greatly admire the USA but I won't apologize for telling it like it is. Are you the type of Canadian who's afraid of offending anyone? There's lot's of those.

They're still leading ahead of Canada in terms of economics, worldwide influence, and scientific innovation. You probably think they lost their way because you buy into the heavy stereotypes of Americans that run around in Canada.
Are you the type of Canadian who's afraid of offending anyone? There's lot's of those.
No, I'm the type of person who doesn't go around calling an entire country fat, stupid, insular, and uninformed. I can see you're the type of Canadian who loves to bunch in all Americans with the same stereotypes, there's a lot of those.
