Thought this was a nice quote and wanted to post it, I know a lot of people are going to say that if JFK was alive today he'd be a conservative, that liberals in 1963 are different than the liberals now, blah, blah, blah, whatever man, it's a great quote:

What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label 'Liberal'? If by 'Liberal' they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer"s dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of 'Liberal'. But if by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people " their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their Civil rights, and their civil liberties " someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal', then I"m proud to say I"m a 'Liberal'"

The actual definition from the enlightenment era for a liberal is someone who supports more reform than status quo.

Conservatives are vice versa, and support more status quo than reform.

Reactionaries, which are what you and me are technically, support repealing elements of the status quo and rejecting further reform.

But that's what modern U.S. liberals care about. I'd say he got it perfectly.

If people actually cared about true definitions, modern liberals would be conservatives. They always claim to hate the current government and find it in need of reform, yet want to expand the governments powers, all while ignoring the simple fact that liberal policies have been the status quo for the last 20 years,
