The UK parliament has just passed a bill to expand its bombing campaign against Islamic State into Syria as well as Iraq. The UK will join the USA led coalition that is attempting to damage Islamic state infrastructure, supplies, personal and equipment through air strikes. The bill passed by a bigger than expected majority with the final vote being 397-223 in favour of the military action. The bill was rejected by the main opposition parties (labour) leadership but a considerable number of its mps (67) voted in favour of the campaign. The governing conservative parties mps overwhelmingly backed the air strikes. On the whole the left of parliament opposed the action while the right supported it. In my view joining this campaign is more of a symbolic gesture against terrorism and show of solidarity with traditional allies then a solution to the problem.

I heard somewhere that the very bill to increase/start airstrikes on Isis by the UK wasn't even drafted until after the Paris attacks happened, but I cant find a source to back this up. Do you know though?

Yes that is true. The government drafted this bill in response to the Paris attacks.

Yes that is true. The government drafted this bill in response to the Paris attacks.

Then that just validates your point that this entire thing is just a ceremonial show of support, not something of actual significance

Yes agree. A ceremonial show of support sums it up. It will have no significant effects on the effort to wipe out Islamic state.
