I don't get is why we the people of the U.S.A. use American instead of United States-ian/-ese/-ite/-something (I know why but we need a more accurate terminology for anyone living on this continent is an American)?
Anyone can come up with an more accurate terminology besides Stupid American (Courage The Cowardly Dog he he he . . .)?

Too dumb to think of somthing that sounds decent. Mexicans and Canadians were able to do it tho.

This isn't a problem, and it is accurate, you are merely committing the fallacy of equivocation.

United States of America.
Because it's a bunch of states that comprise a country named "America."
Hence, American.

It isn't specific in discerning from those from the U.S.A. and those from other countries on these 2 continents.

It is specific, because every mother****er on earth knows exactly what you mean.

Why do they know?

Military mostly. :P

You mean Canadians and Mexicans who aren't described as Americans in just about any situation?

From Africa which is composed of 52 countries you are African.
From Europe composed of 47 countries you are European.
From Asia composed of 50 countries you are Asian.

Nope. Again, quite accurate. You're just equivocating.

No one gives a f*** about the American continent. No guns enforce laws for a jurisdiction called "North America" or "South America," they enforce such things for the "United States of America," and it is in regard to that that distinctions like "Americans" are drawn.

This includes all citizens of the U.S.A. since we are simply going to wing the distinctions of people from our nation to that of other nations.

Yep. The U.S is quite idiotic and my dad blames liberal Oklahoma for me wanting to get out of here before it collapses.

Yes Americans are indeed stupid. That's why we don't have the most nobel prize winners than any country. That's why non-Americans on this website always beat Americans in debates. That's why americans haven't invented such important technologies like the first video game, the assembly line, the first airplane the internet, the polio vaccine, the microwave oven, nuclear reactors, the personal computer, the artificial heart, and lasers. That's also why the top universities in he world are not american universities.

Indeed, americans are stupid.

They like to redefine words a la 1984. I always hated that. When I was 7 I went overseas and people kept saying "So you're the American" and when I said "No, I'm Canadian" they just laughed at me.

Disambiguation is usually done the other way, using North, South, or Central American for the larger areas, or "The Americas" for all. English is less loaded with multiple meanings than many other languages, so making it clear by context really should not be thought a problem.

However, there is an alternate word: Yankee. Many foreigners think "Yankee" is a pejorative, as in "Yankee go home," so they are shocked to hear there is a baseball team called the "Yankees." Apparently the term was coined by the British during the Revolution as a pejorative, some say as a Dutch version of "John Cheese." I guess swearing was not so advanced back then. Anyway, the Colonists adopted the term favorably.
