The theory is that because of the massively horrible publicity he's gotten people feel as though it is not socially acceptable to publicly show their support for Trump so many of his supporters say they don't support him; online polling methods have shown higher levels of support for Trump for other polling methods have and one possible explanation is that people feel more comfortable saying that they support Trump from the anonymity of the internet. If this is true, it would mean that Trump is noticeably more popular than the general public lets on about.
Is there some merit to this idea?
