While almost every other candidate who had always polled south of 1% have already dropped out of the race on the side of the GOP, the last remaining holdout, Santorum, has decided to hang around in the race anyways. He hasn't announced he is dropping out, but he has finally admitted to thinking about it, which is usually a thing that happens right before someone drops out

http://www.realclearpolitics.com...

If he drops out tomorrow or after an a** whipping in Iowa, he is the last person standing in a GOP race where every other candidate is polling at at least 2%. Santorum out of the race according to the poll above leaves Fiorina next in line at the very bottom, just behind Huckabee and Rand Paul.

Perry is gone, Walker is gone, Pataki is gone, Graham is gone, Jindal is gone, and it looks like Santorum will be next...... Oh happy day!

He's arguably the least conservative of all the candidates in the race and a good amount of his fan base came from the people who supported daddy in 2012, it doesnt surprise me to see him do so poorly when he has more in common with moderates (who are doing god awful) than he does with the hard-core rightists (who are leading the race)

Santorum was a total lunatic, but nobody really supported him so him dropping out probably won't matter too much.

After Santorum drops out is when things get real interesting, because everyone else has at least 2% in the polls following him. Even a 2% swing can throw one candidate above another in the mid-tier rankings (Bush, Christie, Kasich), giving them maybe just enough momentum to start pulling away from the middle of the tier and a platform to have a deep run in the primaries

I don't know about this, I guess it depends on your definition of Conservative. My definition of Conservative is one who is Fiscally Conservative, and pro natural and Constitutional rights. In my mind, I see a bunch of fake a$$ neo-conservatives on the stage, and then I see Rand Paul. Even Ted Cruz can't be outlined as a true Conservative I don't think. After all, he thinks Snowden should be killed, and that the Government should spy on all of us.

Conservatives want the government to stay out of economic affairs (low taxation, anti-unions, anti minimum wage hikes) but have the government have a role in personal affairs (gay marriage, abortion, etc.)

Rand Paul is only meeting half the requirement to be a conservative, and is more easily classified as a libertarian, since he wants the government out of economic affairs AND personal affairs alike...... In a primary race where people have to be the most conservative out of everyone else to get support, it makes sense that Rand is doing so poorly, since he's only half of what conservative voters want
