His dropping out isn't a shocker. His endorsing Rubio did surprise me a bit. Thoughts?

Rubio has also been endorsed by Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania

https://marcorubio.com...

And more importantly Rubio was endorsed by Tim Scott of South Carolina, the state next in line after New Hampshire

I think Rubio is going to pull away as the candidate for the moderates in this one

It's dangerous for Trump. Trump must reverse the narrative for him to continue to be viable.

Cruz is a much more dangerous threat to Trump than Rubio is. If Cruz goes down, Trump has a better chance of annexing his voter base, but Rubio is built off of moderate voters who would support anyone BUT trump

I disagree. If you look at the places where Trump and Rubio competed hardest in Iowa, it was in areas with business conservatives. Obviously, both pose a threat, but in different ways. Trump is being hemmed in on both sides.

To compete against Rubio for the moderate vote exposes Trump to Cruz, who wants to get the hard right vote. You cant woo moderate votes without hemorrhaging ultra-conservatives, which would be exactly what happens if Trump goes after Rubio

If Trump goes after Cruz though and knocks him out, then Trump has the hard left vote locked up since Carson is flaming out. Then he can go after moderates all he wants since he has no more competition for voters in the field he excels in, the radical right

I also find it surprising that Santorum endorsed Rubio, but I guess they are both Catholics.

I like Rubio a lot, but his social stances and his foreign policy views both make me pretty wary. Santorum is pretty extreme on social issues, so the fact he is supporting Rubio makes me a little uncomfortable.

The two other big dogs in South Carolina are Senator Graham and Governor Nikky Haley. Graham dropped out already and endorsed Bush, but I dont think anyone noticed or cared..... Nikky though has a far higher profile in the state than Graham, especially now after she delivered the response to the state of the union earlier this year, and she endorsed Romney over Gingrich and Santorum last time around, meaning she'll swing for whichever moderate emerges out of New Hampshire the best

Theyre not, but with endorsements like these, Rubio looks like he'll outlast Bush, Christie, and Kasich with the momentum he is getting to become the candidate for moderate-leaning voters.

It's not really shocking. He agrees closest with Rubio on foreign policy and Rubio is very credible on social conservative issues.

Actually, according to exit polls Trump won moderates, Rubio won somewhat conservatives, and Cruz won very conservatives. In reality, Rubio is square in the middle of the GOP ideology-wise - Cruz appeals to the more conservative end, and Trump's populism pretty much only appeals to moderates, paleocons, and conservative Democrats.
