What are peoples thoughts on Romney taking on Trump?

Another politician who is going to be stumped by Trump. He should have held his tongue.

I like how Trump is whining about how Romney is "betraying" him. As if Romney would reward Trump's 2012 endorsement by turning a blind eye to Trump's antics. Not everyone is like you, Trump.

Trying to politically correct someone who attracts people who hate political correctness is not going to work.

Just goes to show the Republican machine that created 50% of the conservative movement who would betray American sensibilities in the name of security has lost all control.

It this a signal that the establishment is now willing to have the Don run as independent and put Hillary in office?

By not outright endorsing Rubio or any of the other candidates, Romney is just adding fuel to the already raging fire that a lot of people dont like Trump without trying to push forward a viable alternative that the race desperately needs. Democrats just get more fuel for the general election if Trump wins the nomination since now their own high-ranking former picks are denouncing Trump.

Im almost tempted to open up a betting pool on which high ranking Republicans denounce trump and endorse the Dem nominee. My money is on Colin Powell

Trump will lose the election for the same reason Romney lost: namely, significant numbers of Republican voters sitting out the election-- allowing the opposition to win rather than actually supporting the opposition.

If anything , this only solidifies establishment vs outsider mentality. While the establishment says it's only doing this to "preserve the integrity of the GOP..."

Trump voters get it. The establishment is going to lose their power for betraying the public. The establishment sycophants can make up all the excuses in the world; but when the public is not being represented, there is a price to pay.

Democrats are way slower of course. 8 years of Obama and all to show for it is an incompetent health care bill and zero plans to elevate the poor and especially poor blacks out of their misery. The fact that Clinton has 90% of the naive black vote means that the Dems will be able to maintain the charade for a bit longer. Republican voters are really just that much more cynical.

And actually, Trump is positioning himself to beat Hillary the same exact way Obama defeated her. By having more energy, by having a message that resonates, by having better political strategy and organization, by showing Hillary to be entitled and out of touch. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump took his cues directly from BO Hussein's playbook.

Trump is not Romney.

Exactly. Probably more Republican voters will sit out 2016 than sat out 2012.

It amazes me how Romney is actually hindering his own parties chance of winning the presidential election by attacking the man virtually assured of the nomination. It's also surprising he has not endorsed an alternative candidate. It was a decent speech that was obviously meticulously planned but the trouble was he did little to appeal to trump supporters but more to people who already hate trump. The establishment need to come up with a new strategy to have any chance of stopping the Donald. Even if they somehow prevent him from running he will run third party and consign the gop to defeat. It's a simple choice between trump and Clinton for the presidency. It's time the gop realize this and take their pick of the two.

More likely the reverse. Anti-establishment voters that sat out last cycle have much less party loyalty than registered establishment voters.
