It's less that and more that people like Thett and YYW like one aspect of Trump's platform/personality so much that they become blind to any of his very real flaws.

Winning is all that matters in politics. The fact that most people don't seem to understand this is why they are losing.

lol what's with this rampant misuse of the term "objectively" on DDO? It's literally being appropriated in contexts where it obviously doesn't fit to furnish opinions and biased perceptions with a sense of finality. It's childish.

Can you read? I said both sides were wrong here. Nobody needs to be punching anyone in the face. You really think a fairly law and order conservative is cool with a bunch of paid rioters?

, but you think you can stop the march of history?

Probably not, and neither can you. But I have a moral obligation to try and stop something terrible like this from happening. We're entering the 1960s all over again and I have no desire to live through that sh*tstorm.

But by all means, keep using leftist buzzwords against me. It's possible that one or two leftists were impressed.

Why should I care what leftists think? If anything leftists are now realizing the problem with calling everyone who disagrees with them a fascist and racist for the last 50 years. Lo and behold, when someone comes by and stokes up whatever facists and racists are left, nobody gives two craps.

Trump is not in the wrong here at all. Whatever else you may think of the man or his politics, he doesn't deserve to have his rally shut down.

I am curious what you think about how this effects the election, though. I think this is HUGE for Trump and basically won him the nomination. Do you disagree?

I don't need to stop history. That's the biggest problem and that narrative is why the conservatives virtually always lose. Conservatism is about conserving and articulating a certain sets of ideas, a natural order, into the future. Not crying about the fact that we aren't living in your chosen decade anymore.

I agree with you about the 1960's, though. I've been reading this biography about Nixon and the parallels are actually quite striking

Drumpf is not in the wrong here at all. Whatever else you may think of the man or his politics, he doesn't deserve to have his rally shut down.

He is in that he has encouraged and promoted violence towards protesters, even those who don't actually assault people. He's offered to pay legal fees to people who will beat protesters up. His rally certainly didn't deserve to be shut down, but there is a reason no other candidate has this problem.

I am curious what you think about how this effects the election, though. I think this is HUGE for Drumpf and basically won him the nomination. Do you disagree?

Ummm... maybe have a less restricted circle of acquaintances? Because I know a lot of liberals who would vote Trump over Hillary. She's a pretty intensely hated person in a lot of circles.

His rally certainly didn't deserve to be shut down, but there is a reason no other candidate has this problem.

Before literally every single Trump rally they are told not to engage with protestors but rather to point them out and yell "Trump!" and security will come and remove him. The "Get 'em out!" rhetoric is just that--rhetoric, and you know it. There are at least 10 protestors at every Trump rally--other than one incident which we can all agree is horrible and no one is condoning, it has never exploded into violence. Even when the protestors do their absolute damnedest to pick a fight I might add. Give me a break.

But by all means, side with the protestors like Ted Cruz. Take a look at the comments on his Facebook feed right now, lol. That Ted Cruz doesn't see the problem with allowing the left to dictate what political speech is or isn't acceptable is truly shocking but this election cycle has demonstrated time and time again that despite his much vaunted intelligence he really has no idea of when to back off

And the reason this doesn't happen to the other candidates is because they're safe to the left. They might believe in different things, but there is very little chance that they'll shake up the system that allows the left to perpetually win. If you disagree with me about the left perpetually winning, go take a look at the democratic platform in the 1990s

I am curious what you think about how this effects the election, though. I think this is HUGE for Drumpf and basically won him the nomination. Do you disagree?

You think everything is huge and wins him the nomination. I personally think that this undermines what he's been trying to do lately, which is appear 'presidential'.

Quote me. I rarely say that and when I do I've always been right. If you think this hurt him you truly are delusional. His rally got shut down by a coalition of leftists that the base absolutely LOATHES and his opponents sided with them in transparent political ploys. You've actually been right about a lot of this--Trump really ISNT very conservative. But I've been right about more. He may not be that conservative but he is the only figure left standing with the guts to fight the left. Trump Triumph, baby.

If Rubio showed half the spine Trump has he'd be the nominee by now. THE BASE IS SO SICK OF THIS SHlT THAT THEY WILL BE WILLING TO CHOOSE A MODERATE AS LONG AS HE FIGHTS BACK. For God's sake man, pay attention to what is happening and take note. If you have political ambitions, hit the gym and practice standing up to leftists in your life even when its painful.

I don't need to stop history. That's the biggest problem and that narrative is why the conservatives virtually always lose. Yeah by all means strawman me. I'm sure that'll endear you to the left

And lost the general. lol

If/when Clinton wins the general election, it will be the most resounding and deserved "f you" to the demagogue himself (whose entire message depends on an ethos of success), and also to the supporters who've infested this website.

I still prefer Trump to Clinton.

lol this website is a strange place. I don't think I personally know anyone who actually supports donald trump ... much less a liberal who would vote for him over Clinton.

Ummm... maybe have a less restricted circle of acquaintances? Because I know a lot of liberals who would vote Trump over Hillary. She's a pretty intensely hated person in a lot of circles.

Many liberal elitists live in a bubble and have the audacity of accusing people like us of being close minded

What many people, and in particular, PC liberals do not understand (though despite being a leftist I can, namely, because I pay attention to what's going on around me) is that each and every time Ted Cruz and John Kasich blame Donald Trump for "creating an environment" which Kasich in a speech about an hour ago described as "toxic," they are strengthening opposition to to them, to the Republican establishment, and they are consolidating resolve to vote for Trump.

The reason is because there is a two-fold form of political repression that's going on, which Trump has tapped into. The first side comes from the PC left (e.g. the BlackLivesMatter people, and other protesters), and the second side comes from the right wing establishment (e.g. Mitt Romney, Kasich, etc.). What neither the right wing establishment nor the inane PC liberals grasp is that Trump isn't "creating" anything. Trump is doing one thing: meeting people where they are.

It is precisely because Trump is meeting people where they are that the criticism from the media, the left, and the right, of Trump, will fail because people see themselves in him; as they rightfully should, because no matter what their background, Donald Trump represents the values of everyday America--black, white, latino, etc.

The whole problem with protesting (which is why I more or less started my thread on the same yesterday) political rallies, and in particular, Donald Trump's rallies, is that they legitimize Trump's message. The fact that Trump's rally in Chicago was cancelled, more than any other moment in this cycle, will buttress what he has been saying since day one. This is due in large part to the fact that when he--someone who isn't especially concerned with political correctness--speaks, the PC left shouts him down.

When the PC left shout him down, the people who see themselves in him feel as if they've been shouted down; mainly because they have. They are shouted down every day of their lives, when they can't say things like "merry christmas" to avoid conflict with atheist's who will cry to the ACLU to protect their "right to be free from religion" (read: right not to be offended). They are shouted down every day when they talk about police shootings, and question the left-wing fiction that every time anything bad happens to any black person, it's because of whites' collective racism. They are shouted down at work, in their homes; they are derided by the media, and modern progressive culture. They have been shouted down for generations, as since the 1960s they have been pushed further and further out of mainstream America.

To vote for Trump is to defy their being shouted down, and that is why he very well may win the general election, especially if Hillary Clinton (who just lost the support of every gay person in America who is paying attention) is the nominee.

Thanks, Black Lives Matter!

Protesters didn't shut down the event, Trump did.

Neither police nor the university thought the event should be shut down.

To me it looks like he either didn't want to appear in front of a negative crowd or he wanted the narrative that you are spinning.

Protesters at rallies are how politics works, no one interfered with Trumps right to speak, protestors were exercising their right to speak. First amendment rights are just as much for protesters as they are for candidates.

You didn't see the rally, did you?

The probability of it exploding into violence was 100% and Trump absolutely made the right call. Afterwards hundreds of Trump supporters were harassed including families with children--they yelled obscenities and racial slurs at children. The protestors later threw a bottle at a police officer and seriously injured his face. The behavior of the leftists was despicable and disgusting. Shame on you, Raisor.

And by the way, there is no right to protest around secret service, federal law prohibits it. And Trump has a secret service detail in case you didn't know
