I mean, still? After all these years of little to no results? Are there any good arguments for it at all?

http://jezebel.com...

"At the time, I was writing a book about the politics of drug prohibition. I started to ask Ehrlichman a series of earnest, wonky questions that he impatiently waved away. "You want to know what this was really all about?" he asked with the bluntness of a man who, after public disgrace and a stretch in federal prison, had little left to protect. "The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I"m saying? We knew we couldn"t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."

I must have looked shocked. Ehrlichman just shrugged. Then he looked at his watch, handed me a signed copy of his steamy spy novel, The Company, and led me to the door."

It usually indicates a lack of knowledge about reality and history.

The title song from the rock band Queensryche's most successful album, "Empire," is about the illegal drug empire and how more money needs to be spent fighting it than was being spent at the time of the album's release, 1990.

Fast forward to a few years ago when I saw them live-- excellent concert, btw-- the singer introduced the song basically saying, "Woops! We were pretty wrong on this one, eh, folks?" Great rock song, though...

Well it's bad for you so yeah....

In all seriousness, legalizing drugs would actually decrease usage, and only loony conservatives support it.

I'm morally against doing all drugs, but if you want to do it, go for it. But you better have health insurance.

Yeah, lol, I full hardedly support you not wanting to do drugs. But I also full hardedly support other people wanting to drugs. All we're asking for is the choice.

But marijuana has various health benefits, as long as you are over 21. If you do it while your brain is still developing it can screw you up

Yes, I agree, but drugs are bad for you. Like there is no dispute on that. You have the right to do it, but we shouldn't encourage it.

Not really... You have bad breath and short term memory loss, but that's about it.

Some are good, some are bad. And as long as you don't overdo it, and only do it upon occasion, the good outweighs the bad. But then if you go over doing it on occasion, and get addicted, the bad outweighs the good. But many drugs have various health benefits and harms. Balancing those is up to the individual.

Yet more studies reveal negative effects about Marijuana... This pro-marijuana culture seems to be getting out of hand, especially with so many conspiracy theorists saying it can replace 99% of pharmaceutical drugs.

How could it have succeeded? There've been severe limits on what the U.S. could do to fight drugs. We didn't even take the golden opportunity that the War in Afghanistan granted us.

Also, it's utterly ridiculous to claim that the war on drugs was initiated mainly to imprison blacks. The destructive effects of illegal drug usage has been very well known to the general public since the 1980s.

I was exaggerating, I agree it's definitely safer and less addictive than opiate painkillers. But my point is that marijuana in general isn't good for you, and it can definitely make you lazy if you do it too much.

I'm actually serious lol. Half these gangbangers wouldn't be able to sell drugs anymore, because they would lose their market. Gun violence is largely attributed to selling drugs.
