Large-scale, i.e. to the degree that it would lead to population replacement. Or to the degree that immigrants would become a significant voting block.

I think we should stop illegal immigration, but the problem is that its too hard to migrate legally. Its not feasible. We should reform the current system to stop illegal immigration. And I agree with the analogy the proffessor uses. Its like food. You have to eat, or you die. Eat too much, and its bad for you.

Any amount more than what is readily assimilated by the native society. Obviously this amount depends on who the immigrants are, but historically the percent of foreign born residents should be in the 3% - 5% range, around where it was before the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act that permitted mass immigration.

Assimilation is the new racist.

Diversity is the new segregation.

Immigration is the new invasion.

A voting bloc powerful enough to shut down any attempts to restrict immigration, even when needed.

Well, I'll let him speak for himself, but it strikes me as odd to refer to immigrants as a homogeneous entity--I don't think that Mexican immigrants, for example, will favor Middle Eastern immigration just because they're also immigrants. Heck, there are a fair number of Cubans who don't support Mexican immigration. Hispanics, too, are not united in their support of Latin American immigration, and the majority have higher priorities than illegal immigration (see figure 28 in particular, http://www.pewhispanic.org...)
So, what exactly do you mean?

Many of the guys who sneak in without a visa are not interested in assimilating into America, They can't find a job in Mexico ,and see America as a way to get some money.
If Trump really wants to reduce illegal information, he would do better to go after the people who hire illegals and make them pay a YUGE fine.

I find that states/governments - particularly democratic ones - are best suited to being based on (and serving) a particular nation. "A house divided against itself cannot stand", and all that sort of stuff.

Given that en-masse assimilation is something of a historical unicorn, taking in large amounts of immigrants undermines the concept of a sovereign nation-state. There have actually been instances of countries exploiting this (think China on Tibet, or Russia on Georgia/South Ossetia).

As for "significant", think of the role Hispanics play as a demographic in modern politics. As opposed to, say, the Vietnamese in Germany.

Could you explain more thoroughly?

Given that en-masse assimilation is something of a historical unicorn, taking in large amounts of immigrants undermines the concept of a sovereign nation-state. There have actually been instances of countries exploiting this (think China on Tibet, or Russia on Georgia/South Ossetia).

What would you consider a large amount? Got any ballpark numerical figure?

As for "significant", think of the role Hispanics play as a demographic in modern politics. As opposed to, say, the Vietnamese in Germany.

Why, specifically, is the role that Hispanics play bad?
