What do you think?
Will it help Obama for 2012?

Is this a smart thing to do right now?

Big deal.

Of course, if Obama was suggesting adding $60 billion more to the deficit, people would not be saying "meh, it's just chump change."

$60 billion is $60 billion. Our government needs to be looking at where it can save a few billion here and there. We are not going to find a single solution that is magically going to fix our debt problems, we need to save everywhere we can, and this $60 billion is a step in the right direction.

I would. $60 billion just isn't a lot compared to the budget and especially compared to the National debt.

I agree it's a step in the right direction, but it's $60 billion over 10 years. Trimming the edges won't solve the budget problem. I'll take it, I'm just saying it's not a bold move.

If the government spends 40% of the economy, one way or another, 40% of the people rely on the government for their livelihoods. Either directly, as in school teachers and police, or indirectly as in (military) contractors and bankers.

I thought about one day compiling a report to see how much of the economy is run by the government, since spending statistics neglect regulations, which are very important in areas like banking. Or agriculture... My guess right now is around 80%.

What a ridiculous statement. He's doing what is considered a normal way of dealing with this situation, and actually he's barely doing that. The private sector has been doing this for the last couple years, or far more than this. It's like congratulating him for turning on the lights when it gets dark. 'What a bold move Obama, you came in out of the rain'. The only thing bold about this move is he's pissing off a lot of people that support him.

He was being sarcastic. I can't imagine any real libertarian, especially an anarchist, sincerely calling this a bold move. Also, he said in another post in this thread that he didn't think it was a bold move at all.

Sorry about that. I was listening to the radio this morning and they were pretty much saying that it was courageous and i was screaming while driving at 6:30 this morning, opened up this thread and vented without really looking at who wrote what.

I'm not quite sure what to think of the mental image that just popped up in my head.
