The folks at Red State raise a good question. They recommend Mitchell allow the Garland nominee arguing that is the most conservative outcome versus letting Hillary or even Trump make a nominee.

Mitch has said he is holding steady.

If the Republicans were smart they would negotiate with Trump offering their support should he select a conservative nominee. Of course they would need to help him garner women votes to have any hope to beat Hillary. Might be worth a shot though.

Garland is no less liberal than any other Dem justice. Hold the line even with certain defeat.

Very good odds he could be much less liberal.

Both determine law based on how they feel, not based on what it reads. There is no distinction really. Just a matter of degree.
