Look: most of what Trump has done during his campaign so far looks foolhardy and counterproductive, but in the end he somehow emerges with stronger support and then the same experts who at first bashed him for it come to realise his subsurface motive for doing so.
This is probably the same way: it's part of Trump's strategy. He's not doing this without expecting some kind of political gain.

Give me a good reason for him to do this then.

Unfortunately this country is filled with idiots who think Trump's disparaging comments "show some balls."

When he says hateful and ignorant rhetoric, you would expect most people to reject it. But Trump support has shown the true (im)moral fabric of many Americans. We are racist and intolerant compared to other western countries. Because the left has become such PC nazis, they make it easy for Trump to get away with saying really awful things and then spinning it to appear as a sign of strength. "I don't care what these people say. I'm going to say what I think is right for America." Compare that to Shillary who seems to bend at every turn to accomodate her audience. Trump's asinine comments make him appear honest. People might not agree with him, but they appreciate that he "says what he means" without stopping to think about how terrifying it is that he actually means those things.

I'm glad that you put that in quotes. Given his history (not just over the past several months but extending beyond that) I'm surprised, though I shouldn't be, that people take what he says at face value. I pound my head into my desk at night, painfully forcing myself to sleep reading comments from people supporting his comments despite 75% of his statements having had no substance at all. The only conclusion with which I am left is that a lot of people in this country are in favor of "doing something about things", though what that something and those things are has yet to be made clear..

I've got nothing. Just give it a few days/weeks and then check out the Washington Post to see if you can find an opinion article on it with somebody's explanation.

Really? Because she just passed a law repealing the state law that let illegal immigrants get driver's licenses. She repealed the 'sanctuary state' policy and has repeatedly noted how violent illegal immigrants are coming to New Mexico due to lax laws.

For what? Defending a Republican governor who doesn't like illegal immigrants? If only they were that reasonable.

The "things" have been made exceedingly clear. But given that you've demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge about Trump and his positions, your opinion on this matter is unsurprising. Try reading, instead of just jumping at every opportunity to circlejerk with your anti-Trump friends about how stupid Trump is.

Well, first I won't have a "mental breakdown" over anything. Two, his chances are WAY worse than Romney or McCaine's were. Three, I offered a bet - I will take non-monetary bets. Four, Trump is a moronic buffoon. Five, you are the only guy loosing his sh1t over this, or any discussion about Trump.

AND... Decent POTUS? Is that what you hope for? LOL... Great! Your guy might just make a passable president? He11, I don't think he makes a passable person, but whatever. If that is your bar, OK.

Aw :(
Two, his chances are WAY worse than Romney or McCaine's were.
Which is why he racked up more votes half-way through the primary season than Romney did in the 2012 general election...
Three, I offered a bet - I will take non-monetary bets.
What sort of non-monetary bet?
Four, Trump is a moronic buffoon.
Lmao.
Five, you are the only guy loosing his sh1t over this, or any discussion about Trump.
