That idea assumes a strong sense of Nationality.

Free Speech is ultimately a destructive force if the ideas don't converge at some point to enhance the general welfare of the nation.

We are living in a time where Nationalism in the USA is a generally censored idea, and fractious, petty individual needs trump the general welfare of the nation as evidenced in much of the covered free speech in the media. In this case, free speech only hastens the inevitable destruction of the nation as the citizens fall into distinctive, petty squabbling, and a more unified nation with a sense of purpose takes advantage.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations.
