For the first time since March, 2013, a majority of Americans approve of the job Barrack Obama is doing as President. His aggregate rating is as high now as it was in February, 2013--an impressive upswing from more than 3 years of lower ratings.[http://elections.huffingtonpost.com...]

What are your thoughts and reactions to this? How might this impact the upcoming general election?

Obama very much deserves his high approval ratings. If the constitution allowed for a 3rd term, I think he would easily crush Trump.

This is coinciding with the failure or inevitable failure of every policy he has vested his legacy on. I can safely say Obama isn't sufficiently cheered at this.

Almost every president's approval rating goes up after they finish their term of office. Obama's is going up early because people don't like the current candidates.

The Trump effect. His approval has jumped from down two to up 10 since last July.

Obama has always been polarizing, having a very low ceiling by historical standards (e's not been above 60% since his first six months) but an extremely high floor. Even during periods where most presidents would be in the mid-thirties, Obama hovers in the low to mid-40s. He's only risen above 54% once since July 2008 (December 2012) but has never dropped below 40%. He hadn't been above 50% in either 2014 or 2015. His average over his term is 47% - below the 53% average of most presidents. (http://www.gallup.com...)

What changed it? Trump. He's thoroughly dominating headlines, meaning Obama is out of the spotlight. With Trump proposing insane policy after insane policy and making bizarre statements, all Obama has to do is be not insane to look better. He's still not popular (53% is the historical standard for a whole term and he's only just reached that mark for this polling cycle) but he's not unpopular.

God knows how many million private sector jobs have been created. Republicans can no longer lie to people to make them think we are on the brink of collapse.

I haven't checked this month, but wages have increased. It is actually being a pain in the butt for me, as I am about to lose a good worker to better wages and my bossss won't approve a match.
