How do you like your politicians?

Would you like your Politician to be principled first, and use reason to breach principles from time to time?

Would you rather a principled guy who sticks to principle no matter what?

Why do we criticize politicians for changing their minds? Why not praise them for being involved in "thinking," which calls for a change of mind from time to time? Every election year, some old guy gets nailed for changing his position on a certain issue; we should praise a change of mind, not criticize it. When people change their minds, it's usually because someone confronted them with a logical argument that made sense contrary to their current position.

How do you feel about the subject?

Didn't Socrates talk highly of the person who changes their mind?

It is usually false that a politician changes position because of an argument. They change it because it's useful to their careers. It becomes useful to their careers typically because voters somewhere believe it. Most voters are convinced by peer pressure and other emotional factors. Thinking, good or poor, is done by the originators of political positions, but from there only a small minority of the spread after that can be accounted for by thought.
It came to be at its height. It was commanded to command. It was a capital before its first stone was laid. It was a monument to the spirit of man.
