I found this story pretty depressing. Say what you will about recent events causing fear, but goddamn this just looks so bad.

Maybe because people don't want to enter a Mosque when they vote? I certainly wouldn't want to do it.

Yeah, but is there a real reason when the place has been used for some time, and is already a community center.

The mosque also functions as a hurricane shelter, feeds the homeless and even works with the juvenile justice department.

And this part specifically put me off a bit:

Rabbi Barry Silver, a longtime friend of the Islamic Center, says even if some people did express concern then Christian churches and Jewish synagogues shouldn't serve as polling places if a mosque can't.

"There's a lot of violent Muslims around, and we need to be aware of that and we need to be on guard about that. But to suggest that every mosque is pure evil and every other religious institution is pure good is just not accurate and it's prejudice and it's wrong," Congregation L'Dor Va-Dor Rabbi Barry Silver said.

It's nothing against Islam in particular, it's that I would not want to enter a Mosque as I am not a Muslim.

Yet, the President of said mosque/community center votes in a church.

Islam hates women and gays. They should not want to go near a Mosque.

Are people in Florida less likely to vote because of a mosque polling center? Idk.

Mosques don't scare me... but I can imagine that they might scare some people away from the polls.

And brown people don't scare me. I have Muslim friends, I have many middle eastern friends (though most have left Islam and are now atheists or Christians), and I have eaten in their restaurants (delicious, btw.).

But I am a pretty cultured person. I've had food from every continent, and most countries in the world with sizable immigrant populations in the United States. Not everyone is as well versed in the cultures of others as I am.

"Muslim" isn't a color. You must not read very carefully, and are objectively wrong.

It is not "BS" to indicate that some people have friends that look differently than they do. That's even a good thing, or it should be a good thing.

What is your alternative? That I should only have friends that look like me? Well, I'm a white guy so that shouldn't be too hard. But I make my own choices, and I don't make friendships based on skin color.

I couldn't look at a Mosque without thinking of 9/11, etc. All the people they kill because of their Book. Nah, not going inside one.

I agree 100%. Churches are for praying and worship, not for voting for lying politicians. It's antithetical to do it at a church, or any worship place for that matter.

It really does look bad and it makes no sense. If that mosque is closer to my house than the alternate location, I would rather vote at the mosque. This is why we need more polling locations in all elections.

A mosques is not a place for a swine eating infidel who is there to vote for a swine eating candidate. Even the bible teaches it is a waste to throw pears before swine. Respect for religious rights has been served.

I don't particularly think that going to an elementary school gym will be of the utmost inconvenience.

Don't you think there's an issue with making religious places a place for polling? I WILL not enter a place that preaches to Islamic filth to vote. Mosques should be destroyed, not have polling places inside of them.

I found this story pretty depressing. Say what you will about recent events causing fear, but goddamn this just looks so bad.

Maybe because people don't want to enter a Mosque when they vote? I certainly wouldn't want to do it.

So you'd rather go to an elementary school gymnasium where they clean thee floor once a week?

That's an entirely arbitrary and hypothetical statement.

But realistic

I don't particularly think that going to an elementary school gym will be of the utmost inconvenience.

Better than going to the mosque for sure.

Why? Have you ever been to a mosque? I have been to several here in the US and I couldn't tell you the difference between an American mosque and the average Church other than the lack of crosses.
And you'd be voting in the community room, not in the actual prayer room.

So why is going to a mosque? What if said mosque is closer?

Don't you think there's an issue with making religious places a place for polling? I WILL not enter a place that preaches to Islamic filth to vote. Mosques should be destroyed, not have polling places inside of them.

My polling place is a church, so no I don't see a problem with using a place of worship's community space to vote.
And you wouldn't actually be in the worship space, you'd be in the community area.

I have been in both inside a church and a mosque, and I do not want to vote in either.

There isn't an actual prayer room, at-least in the one I went to. It's in the main hall where the mosque is.

Regardless, I don't want to vote in any religious building.

Well, this mosque is actually a large building with multiple rooms and has a community area. Here is a picture of the building, the wing that looks like the dome of the rock is the actual mosque, the rest is office buildings, classrooms and community space.
