Try to create a balanced budget however you want or see if the policies youd like to implement would have a good effect on the national debt.

Goals: Fiscal hawk, reduce inequality, and planning for the future.

Policies: Original: Tax carried interest as ordinary income, increase tax on capital gains and dividends, impose new tax on financial transactions, expand the child tax credit, curtail charitable deductions, eliminate state and local tax deductions, increase Social Security eligibility age, increase the estate tax, spend more on law enforcement, double subsidies for Amtrak, increase social security payroll tax, lower the inflation adjustment for taxes, eliminate cap on wages subject to payroll tax, increase Medicare payroll tax, boost taxes on the super rich, raise taxes only on 400K folks, boost access to generic drugs, reduce what Medicare pays for drugs, repeal Obamacare's insurance expansions, increase taxes on cigarettes, means test Medicare, reform malpractice laws, tax sugary drinks, extend renewable energy tax credits, impose a carbon tax, end tax breaks for fossil fuels, increase the gas tax, free tuition at public colleges, slash interest rates on existing student debt, preschool for four-year-olds, limit Pell grants for neediest students, cut foreign aid, increase defense R&D spending, increase corporate tax rate, set minimum tax on foreign profits, increase childcare subsidies, paid family leave, increase NASA budget, and increase funding for arts and humanities.

Added second play through: double the EPA's budget, boost National Science Foundation funding, increase National Institute of Health's budget, and increase active duty army.

Original: Increased revenue 18.8%, decreased spending 1.3%, 187% toward target debt level.

Second play through: Increased revenue 18.8%, decreased spending .7%, 179% toward target debt level.

Original: All goals completed, and also fought climate change and rein in entitlements. Failed completely on shrink government and tax cutter.

Second play through: Same except also added two stars in national defense.

You can cheat badly because the game does not predict economic collapses due to government interventions.

Nor does it predict social riots when, say, you increase the eligible age of social security.

I was able to easily go billions into the black.

You imagine riots if we increase the SS eligibility age?

It's a very, very limited and simple game that somewhat belies the complexity of a modern economy. Specifically unintended consequences, recession, external events, etc.
