Aside from Reagan, I don't think there has been another modern president without an advanced degree. Trump has his undergraduate degree (that he likes to pretend is a MBA) from Wharton.

Any others?

Is he good at 3 card monte? That's all you need to be a successful president nowadays.

That would seem to be wrong, as it sure looks like only fools from the far right are willing to place sucker bets.

Possibly... Let me look it up.

Yea, it appears so. Carter did the equivalent of an engineering degree in the military, and the same could be said for McCain (possibly).

Does Lyndon Johnson count as modern?

I don't think he got an advanced degree but he was in the military?

I also believe Al Gore didn't have any advanced degree - he dropped out of Vanderbilt to run for the House, and H.W. Bush never pursued any advanced degree.

I think HW does have an advanced degree, but you are right about Gore.

Good to know.

I posted this at first because I assumed that most people understood Trump did not have an MBA, but reading elsewhere it is clear most people are duped yet again. It got me thinking about other presidents with no advanced degrees. Basically, I had no issue with Trump NOT having an advanced degree, but I tried thinking of any presidents who didn't, and the only ones I could think of were Reagan.

Anyway - Trump's much touted Wharton degree is an undergraduate degree, and he did not do particularly well at that. Should it make any difference to you? I don't know. Does it to me? Sure it does. I like smart presidents, and Trump insists on tell us at every turn about how bright he is. I have a real hard time finding any trace of that brilliance.

Truman had no formal college education period.

As far as 21st-century candidates, all have had advanced degrees. Even with the libertarians and Greens.

Trump's education was an aprenticeship.
Trump's Father, Fred Trump was rather successful in the real estate business. By working with his father Donald learned more than anyone in that business.
Politicians like to think that since they went to law school and have a degree, and passed a bar exam, their education qualifies them for an elected office. So when you hear that Trump is not qualified to be president, what that means is he is not a lawyer, he is a real estate tycoon.

Knowing the law is very helpful when writing laws. Getting an advanced degree is helpful in becoming a professional anything.

Trump DID learn with his father, I have no doubt. That does not mean that he had nothing to learn from getting an MBA - he did not.

Getting a degree from liberal professors will give you liberal ideas that not all U.S. citizens will admire and abide by.

Getting a degree from conservative professors will give you conservative ideas that not all U.S. citizens will admire or abide by.

In other words, a degree in anything will not guarantee that you will become a good President of the U.S. or not. What matters is who planned everyone's life experiences. Once you understand that ONE's plan, then it makes no difference who he chose as the next U.S. President.

As for Trump being a good president, This is a matter of opinion. If you are a liberal, he won't be.
He agrees with the other republicans on goals.
Having prayer in schools is a goal of the republican party as is stopping abortion, and keeping the creationism theory alive.
These are goals, will they be achieved? there is no guarantee.
Being a republican , those crazy ideas you liberals believe in, will not be embraced by Mr. Trump. This is a reason you will consider Trump to be a worse candidate than Hillary.

that brings up another issue. This year voters will be voting against Hillary, or voting against Trump.
They used to say "may the best man win" ,this has been replaced with may the worst person lose.
In the early months of this year it seemed that the republican candidates were a group of guys who could not win this election. Can't the GOP find someone better?
Then Trump started getting more votes than he was expected to in the primarys, even though he seemed to be too rude when talking about his opponenets, thus proving that negative campaigning works, and it works better than the old fashioned way.
