Afghanistan is known as the 'Graveyard of Empires' and continuing US occupation is having some disturbing trends. Under the Afgan Taliban opium production was successfully banned [http://www.nytimes.com...]. And the practice of Bacha bazi [http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...] was illegal and punishable by death.

The US desire for the vast resources [https://www.thenation.com...] has cause us to ally with the corrupt Afgan government in Kabul, leading to making 90% of the worlds heroin [https://www.thenation.com...]. The President of Afghanistan's brother involved in the drug trade[http://www.nytimes.com...].

Furthermore our millions spent go to complete waste - the air fleet the US gave $480 million worth of hardware - was scraped for $32,000 [http://abcnews.go.com...]!

Thoughts?

I think we need to stop leaving governments in ruin and start creating satellite governments in the countries we invade, effectively taking them over and ensuring domestic tranquility and providing for the common defense. If anyone complains then boo hoo.

So Obama turned the Middle East and North Africa into a wastelandish hell hole of chaos. We already knew this.

Does the term 'Graveyard of Empires' mean anything to you? People aren't as tolerant of US colonialism as they used to be.

I fully understand your sentiment, but I feel that at this point in time we should avoid going to war unless we absolutely have to. Then when we do go, we take the leash off of the military and let them do what they do best until they are absolutely crushed. Then we leave.
Leave rebuilding to them and the private sector. No more country building, only country toppling.

The US will scale down the military ONLY after our mission of World Police has been rescinded.

This was started by Bush then continued by Obama.

Can we turn the world into a hellhole? "Yes we can!"

I don't remember Bush blindly pulling the military from Iraq or bombing Libya into oblivion unprovoked or ousting the leader of a nation hospitable to us. That must have been someone else. The great part of Middle East fell into chaos, but? At least his liberal ego wasstroked and able to ignore the damage to the Middle East and Europe. Liberal blinders allow you to justify doing any ignorant act. Emotion over logic every time.

It means our mission was accomplished within 3 months of going into Afghanistan. Why do we insist on exporting democracy? That is not the goal of war.

Our mission was accomplished in 3 weeks in Iraq. Yet we stuck around for another 10 years. Again, our goal is not exporting democracy no matter how noble that goal may seem.

A Soviet/Russian myth expanding on what was a popular misreading of the First and Second Afghan Wars of the British Empire, which actually achieved its goals in the 19th century (http://www.cfr.org...).

Rather, Afghanistan is a buffer zone between empires (Persia, Russia, India, China). Think of it more of as the larger Middle East's Siberia. It was originally created as a penal colony by Alexander the Great.

And there was no all-out occupation force in Afghanistan until the Obama administration opted for a misguided one-year troop surge of 100,000 in 2011. The initial military intervention under the Bush administration achieved its goal of decimating al Qaeda and keeping the Taliban from the seat of power.

Under the Afgan Taliban opium production was successfully banned [...]
Until the Taliban became the opposition and reignited the opium trade (http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com...). The drug trade is a necessity for rebel forces in search of an inflow of weapons and ammunition.

And the practice of Bacha bazi [http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...] was illegal and punishable by death.
Another reversal. The Taliban are now using the bacha bazi as Trojan horses to either attack or infiltrate the enemy (http://gandhara.rferl.org...).

The US desire for the vast resources [...]
A ridiculous conspiracy theory spread by kooks. The Nation is as reliable a source as Infowars.

Thoughts?
The U.S. had no option but to strike and take out al Qaeda in 2001. The Bush administration's biggest mistake, however, was to engage in nation-building instead of brokering a deal with the Taliban (after having killed their old leadership).

It took me 2 seconds of looking at your profile. "Beliefs: Caesarism, right wing nationalism" you claim to be a conservative but are pro big government ... ha - Books "Anatomy of fascism" and "Mein Kanpur" with I couldn't find through a google search so I assume it's a typo for Kampf. Your only debate is complementing Hitler saying he was good for Germany's economy. And your avatar looks like something a neo nazi would have as it's very reminiscent of the Swastika.

The problem is that after the U.S. took over it handed control of the country to a local government which was too weak to impose order. The U.S. could've destroyed every opium field and cracked down hard on pedophilia. We chose not to do so; in fact, U.S. soldiers who intervened to protect Afghan children from pedophiles were court-martialed. We should've just installed some secular, Pro-US strongman government.

Liking casear and social conservatism isn't Nazism. Also reading books on fascism doesn't make someone a fascist or a neo Nazi. Btw the profile pic is of Golden Dawn which is a nationalist group in Greece

Or reduce the al Qaeda camps to rubble, along with anyone who intervened, and then leave. Nation building is fools folly. We accomplished the primary goal in less than 3 months. Same as Iraq, 3 weeks.

And there was no all-out occupation force in Afghanistan until the Obama administration opted for a misguided one-year troop surge of 100,000 in 2011. The initial military intervention under the Bush administration achieved its goal of decimating al Qaeda and keeping the Taliban from the seat of power.

But it didn't topple the Taliban and the important target of Al Queda (bin Laden) just moved to Pakistan. It seems the entire invasion was over kill when we should have just sent in a strike team instead of an army. But the reason we sent in an army was to secure land for resources.

Under the Afgan Taliban opium production was successfully banned [...]
Until the Taliban became the opposition and reignited the opium trade (http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com...). The drug trade is a necessity for rebel forces in search of an inflow of weapons and ammunition.

Ah I didn't know of this, it makes sense though.

And the practice of Bacha bazi [http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com...] was illegal and punishable by death.
Another reversal. The Taliban are now using the bacha bazi as Trojan horses to either attack or infiltrate the enemy (http://gandhara.rferl.org...).

It's not really a reversal, they are using the boys to kill pedophiles in honey pot traps. It would be a reversal if the Taliban said the practice was ok and engaged in it themselves.

The US desire for the vast resources [...]
A ridiculous conspiracy theory spread by kooks. The Nation is as reliable a source as Infowars.

How is it a conspiracy to say Afghanistan has vast resources? China is moving in to secure those resources.

Thoughts?
The U.S. had no option but to strike and take out al Qaeda in 2001. The Bush administration's biggest mistake, however, was to engage in nation-building instead of brokering a deal with the Taliban (after having killed their old leadership).

So even you agree the Taliban should be worked with? Although I rather have the old leaders who were against poppy production and bacha bazi.

Liking casear and social conservatism isn't Nazism.

Both are elements of fascism/Nazism.

Also reading books on fascism doesn't make someone a fascist or a neo Nazi.

People tend to put their favorite books or the ones that most reflect their beliefs in that section. Why did you put those book on your list?

Btw the profile pic is of Golden Dawn which is a nationalist group in Greece

AHAHAHAHAA yea that group is totally down with neo-nazis.
