There is a presidential debate tonight between Trump and Clinton.

This thread is about that debate.

What do you expect to see happening?

1- Clinton collapsing on stage or having a health condition that doesn't permit her to continue.

2- Trump exceeding expectations by not being so retarded

3- Trump being more charismatic and appealing and winning over audience through prose. While Clinton having better objections and counterarguments but failing to appeal to the audience.

4- Someone shouting "Pepe."

I hope not, but I agree her health is an issue... which is sad.

2- Trump exceeding expectations by not being so retarded

Well, he is expected to be more presidential, but I agree that he will be graded on a curve.

3- Trump being more charismatic and appealing and winning over audience through prose. While Clinton having better objections and counterarguments but failing to appeal to the audience.

I agree with that, too, mainly because I expect her to follow idiot Robbie Mook's advice.

My expectations are set so low that I'm bound to be impressed.

to joke, or not to joke... well, since both candidates, and the 2 other losers, have made this election a cycle a joke, i think i'll joke:

trump telling hill she's fired and hill countering with the dean scream.....

pure comedy.

and nothing of substance in regards to an actual plan, vs. jingoism and denial, between the 2.

The sense in which that's true is what dissuades me from tuning in. I get that it's probably going to be some kind of shitshow, but like, I have a really low probability estimate for whether there's going to be any kind of miraculous revelation during the course of this debate (or, more to the point, nothing especially surprising about what'll come out of it). Some people like to watch the ol' Crash & Burn, but I at least don't find it an especially productive use of my time.

Lol I was being sarcastic. Absolutely nothing new or profound will be unveiled tonight, by either side.

Oh, okay. I was interpreting you as being sort of subtly jokey, like "This debate's going to be the most entertaining spectacle since anything". A lot of people I know are really invested for that reason, and I just don't have a taste for it here. I'm asking a lot of friends' whose brains I trust if they're watching, though, and for what reason, because maybe I'm actually being a crazy person for not watching it. I dunno.

I am excited to watch. That excitement comes 99.999% from expectations of Trump. I would not watch, or be interested at all without him.

How does it play out? Well, I go back and forth. Trump has never been one-on-one. Not once. He has so little depth of understanding that any traditional evaluation would have him loose. He will win, including if he just walks off stage (a possibility), because he is Trump and nothing he does, moronic, bombastic, hateful matters. The show is Trumps.

I expect to not care, as I care for neither candidate, and it will most likely amount to them saying in simple speech "You're stupid," "No you're dumb!". They'll of course do it in a manner where they sound smart or something. Odds are they'll both say stuff that makes me have lesser views on them, and basically remind me that I'm happy that I am too young to vote, and fear the upcoming 4-8 years.

I think people have lower expectations for Trump than Clinton, so if he were to be completely civil and poised himself as presidential, he would win, regardless of what Clinton does. It would surprise a lot of people if he remained civil the whole time, just as it would surprise people if Clinton started acting irrationally in the middle of the debate.

Both candidates are smart enough to understand that attacking each other as they have on the trail will not work well for them. Thus, I predict they'll both appear "Presidential" to some degree, and Trump will claim victory due to his expectations advantage.
