There seems to be a lot of misconceptions about socialism. Not only on DDO, but with the general public as well.

Ask me anything about socialism or politics in general!

Then you must understand that whenever the government gets involved in the economy things get worse off? For example labor participations rates under a welfare state or the massive wealth outflow out of socialist countries?

Why were the 1980's so successful in terms of the economy if Reagan cut taxes for the rich under the flat tax and cut back regulations? Why did FDR's policies prolong the Great Depression?

This is a simple answer to a complex question. There's a lot of discussion and debate on this subject. One theory, developed by Cockshott (an unfortunate surname) argues that Markets (or commodity production, really) are replaced by a system of iterative planning where people participate as producers on one side and consumers of use-values on the other. People receive labour vouchers for performing social labour, where one hour of labour entitles a person to a non-transferable labour credit representing a claim on what one hour of social labour produces roughly, minus deductions necessary for the reproduction of society.

A debate isn't so much about the issue rather than it is about the debater. Using certain debate skills and tricks can easily win you the debate regardless of facts or statistics. Id much rather talk to you here

What I don't understand is that your dodging my statements. Its a fact that the depression was prolonged under the FDR and its not like FDR's policies were needed. The economy takes care of itself. Take for example in the 1920's under Harding unemployment was 12 percent. He did absolutely nothing. The unemployment halved itself after one year and then halved itself again the next year. Harding didn't raise federal spending at all. Compare that to the New Deal and you see how things go when the government gets inside your wallet

The Great Depression is a major subject of debate amongst economists. Keynesian economists and those influenced by Keynesian economics, as well as most political economists tend to favor New Deal like policies. Monetary economist and those from the Austrian and Chicago School of economics tend to oppose them. A lot of it depends on the methodology being applied.

And many socialists would have preferred nationalization of many industries.

The democratic process also selected Trump. Market decisions should not be decided with idiots mixed with geniuses.

The democratic process also selected Drumpf. Market decisions should not be decided with idiots mixed with geniuses.

We are talking about democratic control of profits, not picking leaders, and that is the problem with democracy: Sometimes it doesn't go your way.
And what you propose always ends up with working people getting the short end of the stick and creating massive inequality.

Ask me anything about socialism or politics in general!

Should a hard worker be able to earn more money than a lazy person who refuses to work?

No. Socialism punishes those who are lazy even more than Capitalism does.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs. To each according to his contribution.

In Marxist theory, individual compensation is reflective of one's contribution to the output of the economy. In capitalism, those who own private property receive unearned income in the form of interest, rent, or profit by virtue of ownership irrespective of their contribution to the social product.

Who makes the decisions on how resources are distributed?

Yes but Trumpp isn't nearly as important as my livelyhood. I'll stick with the current system that leaves the unwashed masses out of my pocketbook.

Do you agree with "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"? And if so, how would you envision such a system working?

How would you define "socialism"?

How are you defining socialism?

What's the state"s role in establishing and maintaining socialism, if any?

What's your response to the statement "Socialism hasn't worked?"

Why are you ignorant of economics?

No, are you?

Serious question

Then you must understand that whenever the government gets involved in the economy things get worse off? For example labor participations rates under a welfare state or the massive wealth outflow out of socialist countries?

Why were the 1980's so successful in terms of the economy if Reagan cut taxes for the rich under the flat tax and cut back regulations? Why did FDR's policies prolong the Great Depression?

Actually, FDR did not prolong the depression. I personally believe the new deal did not go far enough.

http://www.oneutah.org...

Uh he actually did

Proof: http://newsroom.ucla.edu...

And wow the new deal didn't go far enough? FDR prolonged the Great Depression by 7 years and you wanted it to be longer? I thought socialists hated poverty?

The Great Depression is a major subject of debate amongst economists. Keynesian economists and those influenced by Keynesian economics, as well as most political economists tend to favor New Deal like policies. Monetary economist and those from the Austrian and Chicago School of economics tend to oppose them. A lot of it depends on the methodology being applied.

And many socialists would have preferred nationalization of many industries.

Then you do know that the Great Depression was prolonged 7 years by Keynesian economics? Hitler nationalized the whole country of Germany and then had no economic repercussions for war crimes. Nationalizing the whole country in economic terms means there will be no repercussions in terms of private businesses leaving due to negative beliefs about the country.

Not only that but the standard of living drops quite a bit after nationalization of the economy. Just look at the living standards of those in Nazi Germany to 1940's America

No, I have taken numerous economics courses and read multiple books on economics, My favorite economist is Richard Wolff.

If you've read any books on economics or listen to economists such as Thomas Sowell and Milton Friedman you know that socialism is an ideal and not really a economic system.

As for Richard Wolff his thinking is more of an ideal than anything. Ronald Reagan economics is far superior in terms of making jobs, labor participation, less welfare population and welfare spending than government interventionism. Imagine if the government takes over anything
