Angela Merkel is running for re-election as chancellor of Germany. [http://www.nytimes.com...] Thoughts? Particularly, I'm interested in hearing about how she handled the country during her last term.

Sure.

I'm not understanding on what hope she thinking running this time around is a good idea. Her refugee policy is one of the worst decision she has made, and has caused her poll numbers to drop. Immigration will be a huge issue in Germany, so expect the CDP to lose just like the Democrats did.

Without any doubt one of the worst "leaders" in European history and a traitor to her people. Even a landslide loss would be far more than she deserves.

However since all of the strong men in Germany died in WWII I have no doubt that she'll be reelected in a landslide. The crusade to liberate Germany (and salvage their gene pool) can't come soon enough

Do you think Germany's economic state will carry her to victory? I understand immigration policy is a big deal (and I agree her actions were egregiously wrong), but will she still have enough support from other areas of leadership to stay in office?

Because Germany is the main country keeping the EU alive. If Merkel is ousted, it will certainly spell doom for the EU in light of the Brexit and Trump victory.

The EU was an experiment in economics that presumed all the European cultures in the EU were essentially homogenous, when in fact they clearly are not.

If there were an ounce of competence left in their government she would be on vote only to decide whether she will be promptly taken to the gallows and hung for treason or locked in a dark prison cell for the remainder of her life.

The US is about to sh*t the bed in terms of providing overseas security now that out next leader sees no value in funding alliances, and him cozying up to Putin which is Europe's third biggest concern (behind economics and terrorism) also doesnt help either.... In terms of economics, Britain voted to leave the EU which is the equivalent of voting for a recession, France is still trying to socialize their way out of their economic woes (not working very well), while other nations like Spain, Italy, and Greece are on the verge of default, leaving Germany as the country with the best shaped economy.

Germany is the center of European stability at the moment and Merkel can take a good amount of credit for cultivating it. If Germans decide to chuck her out the door and replace her with someone who is either far-left or far-right, then European affairs will be thrown into complete turmoil at a time where they cant rely on the US to watch out for them until they get it together

I don't like her stance on refugees all that much (I don't think we should turn them all away and simultaneously ignore the cause of the problem, but having an open border policy, particularly given that a lot of radical Muslims are part of the mass of refugees, is not a good idea), and her handling of the continuing Eurozone crisis hasn't been great either (although that's partially Southern Europe's fault as well), but I think the rhetoric against her is ridiculously overblown. She's helped keep Germany the economic powerhouse it is, especially given Europe's situation in general.
I'm becoming less defined as days go by, fading away, and well you might say, I'm losing focus, kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself.

Yeah. I just think her open border policy is on the trajectory of disintegrating the health of the economy.

Yeah. I just think her open border policy is on the trajectory of disintegrating the health of the economy.

And how is that?

Problems with migrants. If not the labor market itself, the government intervention which will be necessary to keep things peaceful. Assimilation isn't happening very quickly, and cultural clashes are frequent. It's more of a social concern, but I can see it hindering the economy as well by driving up unemployment. It's really to early to make any definite calls, but Germany isn't looking good long-term, imo.

Merkel is the last chance for the EU.

Why is she the last chance? And, why is the EU so valuable?

Because Germany is the main country keeping the EU alive. If Merkel is ousted, it will certainly spell doom for the EU in light of the Brexit and Trump victory.

The EU was an experiment in economics that presumed all the European cultures in the EU were essentially homogenous, when in fact they clearly are not.

So, you don't like the EU?

Look at Greece.

Lol. I'm guessing you don't.

Look, "one size fits all" is the most inane, unachievable goal for the human race right now, in any area.

Yeah. I agree. I don't support it either.
